This isn't exactly a painting & modeling question per se, but is more about taking care of models that have been painted.

Is there any risk of melting models/paints on models/varnish on painted model if they are stored in a place that is too hot? Specifically, if I were to leave my models in a case locked in my car on a hot day, is there a risk that I'll come back and the varnish on my models has melted? From what I understand, the temperature inside of a car can reach in the 130s on a hot day.

Any advice would be appreciated.

The paint/varnish shouldn't have any issues, but Finecast/resin may warp with temperatures that hot. I wouldn't recommend doing it.

I have never heard of this happening, no you'll be safe.

It could happen with oil paints I guess, but you probably aren't using those!!

The only models I own right now are the ones I had back in 2nd edition, 2002. All my paints were citadel paints. The models are all plastic or pewter. No problems right?

Doing that with finecast would certainly be an issue from what ive heard. Plastic and metal should be fine tho.

Some of my friends in Texas had plastic models warp when left in a hot car on a Summer's day. I'm not sure what the models were stored in or where they were positioned in the car (i.e. was the sun able to hit them directly through a window).

The secret to painting a really big army is to keep at it. You can't reach your destination if you never take any steps.

I have never heard of plastic miniatures, painted or otherwise, melting when left in a car. However, I think common sense plays a role here, too. First off, don't leave them in direct sunlight if stored in your car. Most mini cases are dark-colored, so you'll just up the heat index by doing so. Secondly, most cases are internally lined with foam, so chances are, your models are probably pretty well-insulated from outside temps for at least a short period of time. Lastly, if you're still conerned about it, simply leave a couple junk test models inside your car--one outside of your case and one inside the case--to find out what really happens.

That's probably better than taking advice from random strangers on the internet!

Wondering Why the Emperor Left

I lost my old Necron monolith a few years back when I took a brake from wargames, and when I found it two years later in a black suitcase in my attic (How it got in there IDK) but only an edge or two had been melted slightly... that's going though 100 degree weather in a black suitcase in my attic for 2 years

a few hours in a car shouldn't hurt them

Shouldn't hurt them but the models do begin to smell slightly.

Yes! I left my Imperial Guard models in the car one time. Summer time, black car. The models were in a clear Plano tackle box tray. Fortunately since they were metal the models themselves weren't hurt but all of the plastic bases warped. Resin is even easier to warp so be careful with it. The paint on the models wasn't hurt though, the plastic parts just got all droopy.

I had this happen w/ an old rhino that was unassembled, got left in the backseat of my truck for a week in july in TX, the thinner plastic that formed the hull halves warped but the thicker parts were fine.
