Subject: Best battleforce to choose?

I wanna start a new army. I'm unsure what I want to start, and I want to know which battleforce is the best value for money points wise.
e.g. The $190 SM battleforce can make 700pts, but the $180 Chaos SM battleforce can make 800pts, so its better.
Also would Like a battleforce where I can make a HQ choice from the models given.

Sadly, neither of those boxes gives you an HQ choice, and making one out of any of the given bits would be a funky HQ (Though Chaos would be easier than the Space Marine one).
Though, a friend of mine recently started playing Imperial Guard, and we discovered that the battleforce box can be a pretty decent buy. Just play it as two veteran squads, single sentinel, and Company Command Squad. That's two troops, and an HQ.
With my friend, he opted to not build the second HWT, and two of the three sergeants. He used these spare pieces to make Guardsmen Marbo (Elite), a Master of Ordinance, and two bodyguards. He'll be buying Sergeant Harker, and "Iron Hands" Straken to bring it up to a legit 750 point Catachan IG army (With room to expand, as things aren't max upgraded).
Just my two cents

Thanks for feedback, it seems that the Guard Battleforces arent really that good point for cash wise.

Tau are pretty good.
For £60 you get
Crisis Suit £12
Stealth suits £18
Fire Warriors £18
Kroot £18
Devilfish £20
so nearly £86 worth of stuff! When I bought them they were only £50 so it was even better back then.
which trnaslates into a viable army with
1 HQ-suit
1 Elite-stealth
2 troops- FW+Kroot
1 Transport vehicle
Pts wise if you're conservative
Shas el with plasma rifle+burst cannon with multi=80pts
Stealth suits=90pts without upgrades
Fire warriors with two gun drones=about 150pts
Kroot=70pts
Devilsfish=80pts unupgraded
so nearly 470pts and you could probably up that quite easily
Get two of these, add another crisis suit and a hammerhead or two and you have a full 1500pt army easily.

We did a competition here recently for most points in a battleforce. I made ~1500 pts from the chaos one, somebody else got around ~1800 with space wolves. Those are your two best bets for bang for your buck. Neither is competitive at that point scale, but they are do-able.

If you have enough money saved up, the megaforce released for Christmas (SM) has sprues from the commander set. In british pounds you can save about £90 rather than buying it seperately. Everything is in plastic, and you should be (maybe) able to squeeze out 2000 pts with ease. £130 is expensive, mind you... Automatically Appended Next Post: Just converted it to AUS Dollars. It's $200 cost and $138 saved.

Yeah, but i'd have to buy it at australian website price, $350.
Also, I'm looking for a 1250pts list could you be able to write a good list for that point cost using just a battleforce?

A IG battleforce could technically give you a army already, like using the pcs as a ccs, and infantry as vets.

Imperial guard essentially just gives you a "free" heavy weapons squad, since no one uses sentinals.
You do get a HQ squad though.

I believe most battleforces are around 500 to 600 points. Making 1250 out of one is a bit of a tall order.

Well, the BA one is good for BA and Vanilla. You get the Rhino and Tac Squad in both armies' Battleforce, and a Assault Squad too. But in BA, you get those Death Company, which could be given JP and used as Vanguard Vets, or left without and used as Sternguard. Or if you play BA they could be used as Death Company.
If you want an HQ in a Battleforce, then the Nids are the way to go. In the force you get 8 Stealers, 16 Termagants, 16 Hormaguant, 3 Ripper Swarm bases, and 3 Warriors.
Convert one of the Warriors to the Parasite if you wish, and use the other 23 as Priomes. 2 HQs, and 4 Troops. Or you can make the Stealers Ymngarl Stealers for an Elites choice, and give wings to the Rippers for a Fast Attack Sky Slasher unit.

Yeah, Nids are great. Here's an option for you, from one battleforce box:
Convert 2 Warriors into Primes. Keep the third for bits. With some reasonable upgrades, the pair should be around 200.
Run 1 squad of Hormagaunts, with Adrenal Glands and Toxin Sacs. These will be 160 points.
One brood of devourer armed termagaunts will run you another 160 points and be an excellent 18" range shooting unit.
Genestealers! Another 8 man Troops choice, decently equipped for battle at about 150 points.
Three or four rippers will be able to slow down a unit for a turn or sit in cover and be irritating at the very least, and can actually shoot 12" spinefists (terribly!) for a few extra points. Probably about 50 points if you want to spend a lot for little gain.
Convert your last warrior to a Hive Guard using the Venom Cannon, and there's another 50 points for a good anti-tank Elites choice.
Around 750-800 points with decent equipment. You could spend more or less as the situation dictated.
If you wanted the best value, consider the AOBR box set. I think two of those would cost a similar amount if you found someone to take the other army and you'd have a very playable force.
