Hello out there. I know when a swarm base takes a wound from a template weapon it takes double the wounds. If a instant kill template weapon hits a swarm base do you instant kill two bases or just one?

You take an extra wound which would also be ID, so you would lose 2 bases

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

To the extent of my knowledge, GW has never answered this question, in my opinion the intsa-kills should be doubled, but the group I play with decided that we do not (because we follow most of miniwargaming.com 's house-rules)

I thought it was pretty obvious and nt needing a faq.
Templates double hits.
High Strength wounds instant kill.

Hits are doubled before rolls to wound.
Wounding rolls instant kill.

I could be wrong, I'm very new to 40K and all, but it looked pretty strait forward to me.
It's why my dread will have a Flak Cannon (S6 template, assault 2, rending).
Touch 4 bases x 2 templates x hits doubled = 16 hits, each can instant kill. Good bye scarabs.

It doubles wounds not hits.

It doubles wounds. When you remove models as casualties, then you apply the instant death rules.

It should be a pretty obvious if you reread the rules for instant death.

Actually does both, if the unit that is Vulnerable to Blasts/Templates is a vehicle it is double hits, if it is a non-vehicle it is double unsaved wounds.

Personally this is an issue I am not sure with (don't play an army that has anything vulnerable to blasts/templates) but doubling up on IDs doesn't sit right with me. In a RAW stance I can see how it works though in a non-complex unit, but in a complex unit things would be a little different. RAW non-complex would double IDs as much as I dislike that thought. Complex you would still double but if you had more IDs then models of that one type you wouldn't be able carry the extras over.

it kills 2 bases. 2 Unwounded bases if able following the ID Allocation rules.

Step 1) Roll to Hit - Ignored as these auto-hit
Step 2) Roll to Wound
Step 3) Roll Saves in one group (identically equipped models and I don't think any swarms out there can diversify)
Step 4) Unsaved wounds are doubled (by the wording of the Vulnerable-to-Template/Blast rules this comes before casualty removal)
Step 5) Remove Casualties. Since the wounds cause instant death you must remove whole bases.

IE. Peg 6 Scarab bases (10 in the unit) with an Inferno Cannon (hellhound) and get 5 wounds. Punches through the armor and ignores cover. Wounds are doubled to 10. 10 bases are removed as casualties so the entire unit is toast.

Break it down step-by-step and it's pretty straight forward.
