Sacrifice to the Dark Gods

Hi, everyone. I just started playing Warhammer 40K, and I just joined the forums. I decided I'm going to play CSM, regardless of their competitiveness, because they interest me. So, if anyone has any advice to help out a CSM noob, I'll gladly accept it. Anyway, this seems like a great community, and I look forward to posting here.

Welcome to Dakka! Best advice I can give on playing CSM is to do what you want to do regarding theme, aesthetics, etc. If you're looking to "power game" with Chaos you're likely to be disappointed in 5th Ed. Opinions vary, but my experience and opinion is that Chaos is currently 33 flavors of vanilla. But rumor is 6th Ed is on the horizon and Chaos is getting a much needed boost up.

I've heard and read quite a bit of that. I figured I can start collecting pieces now and learn, and when the new codex comes out, live regret free. If I just don't enjoy it, I can always buy a different army until then.

Greetings and welcome!
I am a noob playing CSM as well, and from my understanding, they have been nerfed. I think a new CSM codex is coming out soon though, so we may be in luck. I've read one of the old Chaos Space Marine codexes, (codices? i dont know the plural) and they used to be really awesome. Hopefully, the new edition will make them less like vanilla space marines.
