not rumors just people at the local shop, I don't get it either. Their reasoning is that after eldar, BT tau and CSM and Daemons, all but daemons being rumored to be within 6 months guard will have the oldest codex. or at least one of them. and that leaves years of no 40k codexs.... unless.... I've been a fan of IG since forever, but if they released a new codex ANYTIME soon I would walk into a crowded area and divide by 0. I ain't jest'n.

Don't expect a new IG codex until 2013 at the earliest. Space Marines will get redone in the new edition, as per usual, so you can add that to codices to come before IG. Also, I wouldn't expect 4 40k armies to come out in 6 months. Even if GW produced them that fast, they'd spread them out a bit so Fantasy and LotR could get some attention in the middle too. Don't expect a new army anytime soon either.

Now new IG models, that I can understand. There are a few gaps here and there that could stand to be filled, but not urgently. A new codex just sounds like your local patrons are wack.

Dude even 2013 is a bit soon, I wasn't honestly expecting a new dex until 2014 or 2015. But if the rumors are true, yeah, 4 codexes in 6 months + a new edition. so something has to give here, either that's all bs or we get new races.

Even if GW produced them that fast, they'd spread them out a bit so Fantasy and LotR could get some attention in the middle too. Don't expect a new army anytime soon either.
well they do like to alternate but three in six months isn't too unexpected as LOTR rarely gets any love, maybe once a year at most.

So why does the space marines get a codex for every minute difference in tactics, and guard, who can actually field a ACTUAL variety of forces are forced with one codex.

There is a huge whine fest of a thread here: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/409255.page, where people who can't get the army list they want out of a serviceable book, so they are trying to modify it, so that it becomes just like every other book... <slamming head into desk>

also I came up with this chart of the old releases. turns out, GW's alternating of codexes is new, or at least not consistent.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
it's consistently 3 40k codex's a year, editions have a life of on an average of 4-5 years, so

Black Templar 2013
Dark Angels 2013
Eldar 2012
Tau 2013
Orks 2014
Space Marines 2012
CSM 2012

the other codex's have been said to not be getting a face life in 6th, so, that leaves between 2 and 3 years of no codex unless new races are added. And this is with 3 codexes a year, and not every year has had 3 40k codexes, in fact since 2006 NO year has had more than 3 codexes of any system, except for 2008 with 4 fantasy codexes.

I'm renaming this thread to holes in the rumors/schedules cause i want to get to the bottom of this, I think the obvious answer is that 6th is being designed with a 3 year life expectancy.

no, that's not conjecture, Space marines get updated every edition, soon after the BRB. That's just one of the perks of being the posterboys.

You have no idea how GW's release schedule operates, do you? First of all, the chances of Eldar, BT, Tau, CSM, and Daemons ALL being released within 6 months? Negative. I mean that, there is a less than zero chance of that occurring. It's going to take at least 2 years, probably longer for all of that to be released. Secondly, 'years of no 40k codexes'? LOLWUT? We're getting 6th edition next year, basically all the codecies prior to Necrons are going to require an update to 6th edition...

that's everything that's being rumored though, so something has to give. either release schedule is accelerated or half of all the codexes that have rumors floating around are nothing but utter horse crap. Of the ones with real merit, there's CSM, and tau, obviously there's space marines. So that's what I expect. possibly eldar replacing tau

You've said something's got to give twice now. Either the rumors are correct (4-5 codex in 6 months + new edition) or the rumor is incorrect.

I will play your game, use your terms, and say that what will give is the rumor is incorrect. There will be 3x 40k codecies next year. Pretty much like every other year (if you count the SoB WD as a codex release). In addition, there will be a 40k 6th edition (as I choose to believe that rumor).

Hearsay does not equate to fact, so yes a lot of them are just a waste of time.

They could be crushed into that small time period or more likely spread out over a year or so. Keep in mind WHFB has to shuffle into there as well and while there are releases every month most of them, if not half, are a splash without a new codex.

or you could download the schedule I made in excel a few posts up. The question is, which three get redone? I favor Space marines, CSM and eldar. Maybe tau replace CSM or eldar just due to the veracity of the tau rumors around. More likely though IF tau is next year, it will replace eldar.

Well. What if I said you're horse gak? How did that make you feel? Tone it down.

They are releasing 2-3 (probably) Warhammer Fantasy Codecies next year, in addition to 2-3 (probably) 40k Codecies next year, in addition to 6th edition 40k (probably). They will NOT do 5 40k Codecies next year for 40k. There. Did that distinction make you happy? Was it really needed?

I'm not gong to download any file from someone I don't know. Thanks. Post it where people can read it, please.

As for which 3, I'd say Black Templar and Chaos Legions, because they seem to have the most hubbub. I agree that Space Marines will get a codex soon after 6th edition, as they always do. However, it could go Templar (March) - 6th Edition (June/July)- Chaos Legions (Sept) - Space Marines (Nov). However, that would be two MAJOR releases within two months (Chaos and Space Marines). I think it would be more realistic to expect Space Marines to slip to January.

fixed that for you. Rumors, by the definition of the term, are unreliable. If you believe everything you read online to be true, then I know a wonderful Nigerian Prince who is looking to wire millions of dollars to a US account, maybe I should introduce you...

Also, in case you haven't been paying attention to the latest rumor-monger gakstorm, Aaron Dembski-Bowden (Black Library author) has called out certain rumor mongers who have provided us with much of the rumors you're basing your theories on as liars and misinformants.

He just told ghost21 that the rumors he was seeding out were inaccurate, and ghost21 pulled all this Internet Tough Guy bs and tried to look cool on the Internet. He failed miserably. ADB fo lyfe <3 Also, rumors from Harry or reds8n are to be trusted. They've been doing rumors for years and have always been pretty damn reliable. Not all rumormongers are completely off, just some of them.

Oh yeah, Harry, Bramgaunt, and reds8n are definitely reliable sources, but you'll note that none of them are really squawking all that much atm.

or you could download the schedule I made in excel a few posts up. The question is, which three get redone? I favor Space marines, CSM and eldar. Maybe tau replace CSM or eldar just due to the veracity of the tau rumors around. More likely though IF tau is next year, it will replace eldar.

Just my hunch. If there were to be a 40k Codex Release in Jan/Feb, then we'd have heard much more scuttle-butt before now. So, I'm hoping to see something in March.

September next year will more likely be the new 40k core set rather than a codex release... At least, that's how GW has done things since 7th ed fantasy - rulebook in july/big box for back-to-school torture! (obviously letting the haemonculus decide on release dates now!)

So far it seems the rumores are going;
Jan - VC book
Feb - wave release? (TK models have been hinted at, alongwith a WE treeman, or even more IG & finally some 'nid stuff!)
Mar - Templars
April - Empire book
May - Tau possibly? maybe another wave
June - one of the above, whichever didn't get released
July - 6th ed!!! (and good riddence to 5th I say!)

I'm not so sure we'll get much scuttle-butt anymore for upcoming releases honestly... Look at the VC rummors; Harry, Frgt10 and the other reliable sources have all pretty much confirmed January for the release, but we haven't had a single hint at any actual rumored changes! (just wild wishlisting from all sides)
Harry and others have also said that the Templars have been sitting done for some time now, just awaiting a release window. But again, we've had little to no actual rules/changes rummored.

It seems like we'll still get hints and nods as to what's coming next, but GW has firmly shut down all the real rumors we want like forthcoming rules changes/tweeks.

Vampire counts next month, Gak, GW YOU TAKIN MAH MONIES!!!!!!!!

also how long were necrons done before they were released or dark eldar? At least the models were done long before either of those releases.

Which can also hold "hostile" macros. Come off it, man. I DON'T KNOW YOU. Now you're just arguing to hear yourself talk. (or type, as it were. )

This would be awesome and entirely realistic. Except move Tau to June. Not likely to have a March and May release for 40k. Two months is too soon, IMHO.
