I have a friend who plays vanilla marines (Ultramarines at that!) And I am buying him a contemptor. The question I have is what would be the best way to equipt it? As far as his tactical style it changes, sometimes drop pods some times mech and other times footslogging (which doesn't help with this decision). Because he has so many playing styles I want to know the best balaced gear, and how you would kit him out?

Thanks.

The generic close combat weapon and Plasma Cannon/Assault Cannon options could work, but if you want it to be armed as little different than a usual Dreadnought then you could go for a Conversion Beamer for fun, or just a pair of Auto-Cannons to provide some manouverable fire support. =P

The Multi-Melta looks sexy, and plasma never goes out of style. How is he doing for anti-tank in the rest of his army, and what is his local meta like?

Why choose? The weapon options are reasonable (for FW, anyway); magnetize that sucker and never have the 'wrong' loadout.

I really, REALLY (like, reallyx10) like the look of the Contemptor with the twin Assault Cannons and the Cyclone Missile Launcher on his shoulders.

Come Get Some, indeed.

Magnitizing is the way to go.

I like the idea of the assault cannon and close combat weapon, because I'm kind of a traditionalist with dreads in general. Not a huge fan of taking that awesome model and just making it a fire support walker though.

I am wondering about the graviton gun, as I am a bit fuzzy on what a strength test is...

You roll a die and want to roll equal or less than your strength. A 6 always fails.

I done this first!! My Contemptor furioso was cool. As for load outs, power fist with storm Bolter and lascannon has never done badly for me.

NEVER tell a Space Marine he can only move 6 inches at a time.

no it means that if you have 5 strength in order to not take a wound you have to roll equal or less then 5. But even if you have 6 or higher strength a roll of 6 will fail, even for wraithlords or avatar or deamon princes

Fluff-wise that makes no sense. Graviton Guns are supposed to be more effective against larger/more powerful targets, like stunning a guardsman and tearing down a castle wall.

That's just an awful weapon then that shouldn't even be taken for negative points.

Thanks for the posts/ I think I may go with two CC arms and the cyclone missile launcher. (thx Grey Knight!!!)

@AmmishJohn I will magnetize the dread but I'm not buting all the weapons for a Christmas gift. That would put the tag well over 100.00. He's a friend not my BF/GF.

@Movac I saw that on the GW site. It is a very sexy Contemptor.

Thanks again for the replies. The local meta at the shop is more of a play for fun with a few waac players and so ithink this dread with cc arms and a cyclone missile launcher would be the best.
