I'm looking to get into Warmachine and I was looking to help picking an army. I want an army not unlike the "Orc" style of play; a little slower then average but not the slowest, a little hardier then average but not the hardiest, some shooting but much prefers and better at melee. Toys are OK, magic very important but less important then the big and tough theme.

Warmachine or Hordes is not important. Horde or elite army not important.

Pfft. Easy.

Trolls. Most are medium-based infantry, they almost universally have the Tough rule (essentially a 4+ armor save), with some shooting and a preference for close combat.

If you're looking for strictly Warmachine (rather than expanding out into Hordes), you might want to take a look at Protectorate of Menoth. They have reasonable armor, have some units that are good at hitting close range, and although they have some ranged units (Redeemer, for example) such units are usually either kinda short range or inaccurate. At least that's how they seem to me.

I would also say Trolls/Menoth.

Khador is the slow, tough, heavy hitting faction. They don't have as much synergy as other factions, but their units are generally good enough that they don't require the synergy to become over the top. They have a WW2 Russian theme.

Trolls are similar to Khador in this respect, but are a hordes faction. Troll theme (duh). Trolls are probably the closest to orks, and painting ability would transfer well.

Menoth are a medium hitting, medium toughness faction with more synergy and tricks. They have a religious theme.

trolls for sure. deceptively fast, hard hitting and tough for the entire troop allotment. beasts that hit hard and can take a beating in return.

I agree with Trolls, but its not a 4+ its a 5+ for basic TOUGH.

There are however some mercs trolls and the new 3man unit that can get 4+ Tough rolls.

If you're looking for hard to take down Khador, Menoth and even Scorne can fit that bill. But Trolls seem to fit your request more on the nose than any other.
