Subject: 875pt Eldar Doubles Tournament List:
|
 |
Longtime Dakkanaut
|
Hi guys, me and my mate are hoping to go to the 40k Doubles in Nottingham in February, and we are planning on using Dark Eldar and Eldar. My friend very much wants to use his Dark Eldar and is reluctant to change, whereas I'm open to using anything. However, we have to bear in mind that the allies chart does apply. Any advice on this would also be helpful. The Link to his list can be found here: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/415870.page
I just rattled off an 875pt list in about 2 minutes. My friend desperately wants me to use Eldrad as oppose to a Spirit Stones Seer and as I have a soft spot for Eldrad I caved and have spent almost a quarter of my points on him. So anyway, my list can be seen below:
HQ:
Eldrad (with Avengers 1): 210
Elites:
5 Fire Dragons: 180
-Wave Serpent
-Twin Linked Shuriken Catapalts
-Twin Linked Shuriken Cannon
Troops:
5 Rangers: 120
-Pathfinders
5 Dire Avengers (1) (In Falcon 1): 60
5 Dire Avengers (2) (In Falcon 2): 60
Heavy Support
Falcon (1): 120
-Shuriken Cannon
-Twin Linked Shuriken Catapalts
Falcon (1): 120
-Shuriken Cannon
-Twin Linked Shuriken Catapalts
Total: 870pts
And there it is. C&C most welcome. Thanks

Do you not think we'll need more rangers if they're holding the home objective?

Not really, just think how hard they were to shift the last time you faced them. Also, if we get desperate, we could always divert one of the Falcons towards the objective upon the deaths of the Rangers.

Pathfinders are a waste oh 120 points. Also as you said you are spending way too many points on Eldrad. I would go with a simple stones seer with Warding. 135 points is a lot more reasonable then 210 at this points level... I'd also only run doom because it will really help out splinter weaponry that Dark Eldar should be bringing in droves. I'd also upgrade to a missile launcher + holofields on your falcons. And maybe only take 1 falcon, just stick one of the avengers in a scatter serpent. Shuricannons don't really make sense on a falcon, since no holofields means your less survivable than a serpent, and it has terrible synergy with the pulse laser. Any spare points I'd put into War Walkers, because... why not war walkers. Make a great target to guide at least. Besides I'd take 2 scatter laser war walkers for 120 points over 5 pathfinders anyday. I'd basically suggest this instead. (145) Farseer- Both Runes, Stones, Doom, Guide (195) 5 Fire Dragons : Serpent- tl Scatter Laser (175) 5 Dire Avengers : Serpent- tl Scatter Laser (60) 5 Dire Avengers (180) Falcon- Missile Launcher, Holofields, Stones (120) 2 War Walkers- 4 Scatter Lasers Edit: Fixed it to be 875

I don't really mind if you include Eldrad or not; if Akaean's list suits you (it looks good to me, but I'm not exactly an Eldar expert) then go for it.

akaen's list will get you the most bang for the point cost. However I personally would swap the Farseer down to just RoWard and guide, drop the walkers, and take another Falcon with EML, Holos. Your friend lacks long range Str 8+ so the two Falcons will help a lots seeing at though it will be likely to see Psyfleman dreads and Crons.

Yeah, thanks everyone. I think I will use Akaean's list. I was thinking about dropping the walkers but I don't really want to drop doom or the SS, plus we still have the Fire Dragons in their Serpent. This list as it stands should make a mess of transport lists with all of the S6 flying around though. I agree that Psyfleman dreads will be tricky, as well as any Hydras that decide to show up, but hopefully we can get away with it.
Thanks again!

Do you already have any War Walkers?
Automatically Appended Next Post:
I don't think psyfleman dreads will be that tricky; there'll be a maximum of three and we've got nine vehicles. Plus I've got four dark lances in my army, and you've got a lot of firepower as well. And all my transports will have a 5+ invulnerable save, (or 4+ if we're hidden in cover!)

I disagree, venerable psyflemen dreads can be very durable, but I think a squad of fire dragons would do the trick. And I do have one War walker, but I had only just started 40k at the time and ruined it but putting 1 Scatter Laser and 1 Bright Lance on it.

Thinking about it, I agree with Blue Dagger, that Quantum Shielding and Psyflemen Dreads who have a 50% chance (against Eldar) of ignoring shaken or stunned are very dangerous. Ultimately though in a 2v2 I don't think its the Eldar that should be countering these worries though. Bright Lances are way over priced, and even Missile Launchers are over priced for what they bring to the table. Eldar can bring s6 spam in droves, which is the best at threatening razors / rhinos, and the flanks of Chimera. Which are also important targets to bring down. The Falcon is fine because quite frankly its the hardest scoring unit you guys can put on the table, and it can help the Dark Eldar with shooting AV 12. To counter the bulk of av12+ specific threats, you should really be looking to the Dark Eldar Player. 2 Ravagers would set him back around 230 points. and bring a ton of cheap s8 lance fire power. Dark Eldar can bring the right guns for av12+ for a lot cheaper than Eldar (outside dragons). Also consider your lists lack some synergy- right now you have a very shooty Eldar Force, and a very up close and personal Dark Eldar force. I would recommend re tooling one or the other so that you are both trying to accomplish the same thing. Something like a blasterborn venom, 2 squads of warriors w/ blaster in venoms, and 2 Ravagers for instance. This type of army would have similar operating range, as well as similar speed, and both have suicide tank buster squads.

Just checking; War Walkers are Heavy Support aren't they? Automatically Appended Next Post: Have you considered using Warp Spiders? From what I've read they seem quite good, or at least that's what the consensus is on all the forums I've checked, and they would fill up our minimum Fast Attack slot, meaning I wouldn't have to have the Beastmasters and could have a Ravager instead. Automatically Appended Next Post: If I'm going to include the Ravager and the Razorwing, I think it might be worth dropping the Falcon from the list, as as Akaean said dark lances do a better job than missile launchers. I've got six dark lances in my force, so I think that'll be more than enough to deal with any heavy armour, while the War Walkers deal with transports and other light armour. And you could use the spare points from the Falcon to get some Warp Spiders!

Whats all this about a minimum fast attack slot? Eh I still wouldn't go for Warp Spiders. You want to keep up the light vehicle saturation. you need to fill up a fast attack slot then drop the War Walkers for a Vyper Squad. (60) Vyper- Shuriken Cannon, Underslung Shuriken Cannon You end up with 2 less shots than a Scatter War Walker, and shorter range, but you'll have the speed to keep up with everything else you guys are fielding. and 6 s6 shots isn't bad. And it fills up a necessary force org slot apparently. What exactly are the list requirements, that obviously helps us...

The rules for the Doubles Tournament can be found here, but my laptop can't read PDFs, so I've been unable to check if GW doubles tournaments still have the minimum 1 Fast Attack choice.

Ok, I don't seem to be able to open it either at the minute, but this is the way that it was before:
Each half had to have 1 HQ and at least 1 Troops choice. Then the total army list has to have at least 1 Elites, 1 Fast Attack, and one Heavy Support Choice, then you can pick whatever you want so long as you stay within the boundaries of the standard force org chart.
Sorry for not posting this earlier.

Rules are different this time - each force must have HQ and Troop, after that FOC is available as normal for all - oh and no duplicate special characters.
Unless there has been an FAQ which I don't know about.
