Well, Abaddon the Despoiler seems good anyway. The problem is that he has a 1/6 chance of punching himself in the face instead of attacking, which will usually result in another wound from whoever he's fighting as well. Also, compared to other character with similar costs, he's not as good as he should be, though this is more codex creep than anything.

Arguing with some people is like playing chess with a pigeon. You can play the best chess in the world, but at the end of the day the pigeon will still knock all the pieces off the board and then gak all over it.

I have almost always seen him used to good effect.
The only time he didn't do well in a game (that I was part of)
Was the time he deep struck with a unit of chosen terminators, scattered into a mob of grots, and mishapped himself to death.
Around 650pts dead in turn two because he wanted to come in next to my objective and clean off the unit of grots I had camped there.

If the thought of something makes me giggle for longer than 15 seconds, I am to assume that I am not allowed to do it.

Staying on target.....

Aye but I'd only ever use him in higher end points games I think

He's one of, if not the, most devastating CC models in the game. I don't use him often, but when I do, he tends to wipe entire squads by himself.

In the grim darkness of the far future, there are only rules disputes.

He's actually decent, all the failure comes from the fluff side of it and mostly is over exaggerated anyway.

I have fielded Abby twice so far. In both games, he utterly destroyed enemy assault terminators,, Venerable Dreads and other tough customers in CC, without ever taking a single wound.

I think he has no place currently in games under 2K points, but below that, if you use a Land Raider anyway, there's no reason not to include him. I replace Kharn with him in high-point games and it has a double benefit of leaving my zerkers alive longer (Kharn goes through them rather happily) and also giving me a powerful CC monster immune to ID I can place Demolisher and lascannons wounds onto to further spare my troops.

In Boxing matches, you actually get paid to take a dive and make the other guy look good.

In Warhammer 40K, you're expected to pay cash out of your pocket for the privilege of having Marines and IG trample all over your Xenos/Chaos.

Which is funny because his rules originally said he could only be used in 2000pts+ games. Or was it 1500+?

I run him regularly, and he rarely disappoints. Personally I like running him with plague marines out of a landraider. This way if he gets stuck out in the open you have 8 other T4(5) models with FNP to suck up wounds for him. Additionally it effectively gives him assault and defensive grenades which makes him even more deadly.

Out of maybe 20 games with him, he has only been killed twice. Once by a blood talon dread, the other time by Ghaz + 30boyz + 3 Meganobz. Abaddon is arguably the strongest CC character in the game.

He's very powerful, very fast, very durable, and very expensive. If you're playing a big game, he can be worth it. Problem is, you need a transport to stick him in and some buddies to roll with him, so by the time you've got the Land Raider and Terminators for him to pal around with, you're already out about 450 points before buying Abaddon himself. He's a beast in close combat though.

I typically only use him in apocalypse. My proudest moment was when he cut thru Marneus Calgar and his honour guard before they even got a chance to make any attacks.
