Hi all,
I've been on a trip down war-gaming memory lane recently...some of what are now "specialist games" were my favourite back in the day.
Sadly not in that section on the GW Webpage is Gorkamorka... I wonder how many of you ever played this (or still are)? It would appear some of those models have been reworked into the current 40k Ork range, and I'm sure a few crazy meks out there have been building up mobs from all sorts of bitz!
I truely loved this game...in my opinion, it had all the best bits from Necromunda, plus crazy Mad Max esque vehicle combat (I know rules for vehicles were made for Necromunda later but still...) and clash landed Orks?! Awesome!
I went back to my parents house a few weeks ago, convinced that I still had an original copy of this game and a mob I made somewhere, but it would appear they either did not survive the ravages of time or my old man sold/binned em?!
Just wondered who else has fond memories of this title and whether anyone is still playing it? Have only seen a small handful of models on the gallery...
Will have to add "make a mob" to my list of projects now. Haha

Me and a few friends started up a GM set earlier this year but, as with most things, life got in the way and we haven't played in a few months. We had a great time while we were doing it though!

Glad to hear it Optimus! I was rooting around on forgeworld just now too...
http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Warhammer-40000/Orks?page=2
You could make some bat- sh#t insane vechicles by mixing all their stuff in...that is of course if you got the $$$'s for such a project...
The good side to these types of games (Necromunda, Blood Bowl etc) in my opinion is that theres a huge scope for customization and at the same time you don't actually have to buy too many models to play a mob/gang/team/whatever...probably the reason GW ditched 'em...haha

No, no. Not since the dark day when all the Gorkamorka players were sent to the camps.
Most of them made it back but they were changed. Changed, you see. All had Space Marine armies, most of them painted even, albeit with the Ultramarines Blue a little thick perhaps. And the sounds! They were practically silent when you think back to the happy ork-noises they used to make, before the red shirted troopers hauled them off to the camps with the razor-wire and guard towers.
You can still hear an occasional desperate 'waaagh!' from some of them... Especially the ones that have picked up an Ork army since the dark times.

I thought it was great, Necromunda with the vehicles. Great fun with Orks crashing around making a huge mess.
Haven't played in years but that's only because I've not had the players. If I had a gaming group that were serious, of course I'd pick it up again.
Lots of fond memories.

Haha Balance you've lost me a bit there...but if by this you mean its a shame those games were lost/back-roomed then yes I agree whole heartedly with you...all I can picture is some kind of Steve Mcqueen motorcycle moment here with a 90's boardgame under his arm! Automatically Appended Next Post: Howard - Thinking back now, I probably only actually played a couple of games of it, but just flicking though some of the rules made me smile; Turbo boasters, boarding vehicles, swinging wrecking balls at each other, rebel grots...awesome stuff!

Just stuck at work and having some fun. Never played Gorkamorka, but I did enjoy it's cousin Necromunda. And the idea of GW forcibly 'reeducating' players makes me laugh.

I got what ya ment mate just messing about Well if you liked Necromunda and think Orks are fun too you should def check it out...there were also other races too with the add on...humans who idolised the orks and tried to emulate their ways (diggas), the communist-esque rebel grots, and savage mutie raiders that looked a bit like sand-people from a certain other sci-fi francise. It was also the first game to hint at the existance of the Necrons, if I remember correctly, who came out shortly after.

GW have the rulebooks as PDFs:
http://www.games-workshop.com/MEDIA_CustomProductCatalog/m1340010_GorkaMorka_-_Da_Roolz.pdf
http://www.games-workshop.com/MEDIA_CustomProductCatalog/m1340011_GorkaMorka_-_Da_Uvver_Book.pdf
If I can convince some other people to have a go I'd be up for it. The rulebooks are an entertaining read just for the background and the game itself looks like the sort of thing I could really get into. The game being about Orks just makes me want to play it even more.

Driven away from WH40K by rules bloat and the expense of keeping up, now interested in smaller model count games and anything with nifty mechanics. |

Cheers Fezman, useful stuff for sure and good that GW finally put it up!
Also it may or may not be very easy, if you don't mind where you're sourcing it from, to find the Digganob add-on in a PDF too on the web but I am in no-way encouaging such things, as its naughty and artists need that money to live...blah blah blah...

I'd play a mob up to the point where it would become a partof my Ork force.
The FW stuff is very tempting though.
Question-
Do all of those grot tanks come in the same kit?
Liked the look of the old school bubble chucka's, and if you can pull it off, there are a bunch of home made options out there still.
There are several good Gorkamorka sites still out there, and thier quality would put GW to shame.
I'm playing with a couple of boxes, a few old truks, and some scrap heap tokens.Love the game, but wished GW would support it, still. (Same as Necromunda, but since the purge, it is still safe for the guy with the full collection of the first edition.)
Daves forts and sci fi stuff are almost essential for expanding the table of a 4X 8. Great selection over there, too.

I think so Grot 6, I've seen a couple of home made versions on here too (one out of a paint pot and the other made with a kinder egg?!)
FW stuff is awesome but a bit expensive for one off use in the odd Gorkamorka game but if you played 40k Orks too then guess it would be a sound purchase like you said.

Blackfang good stuff man I hope it works out well.
I totally see your point about including more of the 40k universe into these skirmish type of games and I think its a good one.
Aren't there already 40k squad/skirmish offshoot rules? Is it called apocalypse or armageddon or something like that (sorry not that up on 40k these days).
Well just in my personal opinion I rather like the limited races side of it. Everyone pretty much starts out the same (expect for the visual styles of their gang/mob and the odd minor rules or weapon choices) and then through either good/bad tactics, slugging it out or in a lot of cases shear luck lvls up and some real character starts to emerge in your team. Two gangs that are basically the same at the start of a campaign could be wildly different by the end in terms of skills, gear, war stories, whatever.
I feel if you have too many races in there, then there maybe no common ground? I guess if you get the racial balance just right and chuck in loads of cool character development it could be awesome but ya gotta have a good narrative side too. Why are they there...why are they fighting each other...etc,etc.
Good luck man

Sorry to hear that mate.
I really didn't like the digga models that much, they just looked a bit too weedy next to the orks...I'd probably make some out of either Jungle Fighters or Chaos Marauders parts or such like. Automatically Appended Next Post: Proiteus wrote:Here's another photo of the squad...

Thanks.
That gang is absolutly stunning and unexpectedly well designed and executed.
I have another inspiration to get back into GM, now.
Going to pull out the books and gang charts and start working on a variation on a theme with this picture you have here.
Going to have a look on fee bey as well.
Amazing work, by the way.

Grot sadly those aren't mine, but they are cool eh? If I was gonna scratch build 'em I'm use these as a base. They're by another dakka dakka member called Proiteus, not sure they're actually ment as a Digga mob as such but would work really nicely as one especially if you chucked in a converted one of these as a digga truck

Myself and some of the other guys from tUGS (see my sig) play Gorkamorka regularly. Normally I'd be playing a game as I type this but I'm ill this weekend and so have had to cancel.
I'm not sure I'd classify Gangs of Nu Ork as a supplement though, it seems to be more an entirely separate game. Da Deff Islands is a supplement though - Gorkamorka on water!

Flamekebab I stumbled on to TUGS the other day infact! Great site like all the extra rules and stuff.
Well I'm finishing up a Scavvie gang ATM for Necromunda but once they're done I'll def be building a mob...could quite easily transfer those underhive freak building skills into whipping-up a grim bunch of mutie raiders but really had my heart on an ork mob first which would require a bit of thought and buying a lot more bits.

The problem with GorkaMorka is that you quickly wind up with a lot of teef and nothing to really spend them on. Necromunda and Mordheim handled income better than GM did. I suppose you could adjust the economy a little to make it take longer to max out.

Breotan I never got that far into it to ever encounter that problem...The rules say that when a mob reaches 400 rating (I think) they basically retire, which is a bit of a lazy rule in my opinion, maybe you could write some rules for an orky 'gambling den' or such like where you have to spend large ammounts of teef to be in for a chance to win stuff like 'one in a million' weapons or vechicles?
