Resolute Ultramarine Honor Guard

Is there some source or hint to who would the Emperor appoint to replace him as the Emperor if Horus had died in Great Crusade?
I would say either Sanguinius or Guiliman. But many people also suggest Dorn. Is there any source on this?

I would most probably say Sanguinius. I doubt Dorn would be put in charge, given his specialty at being the emperors wall Guilliman, maybe, as much as i wouldnt like him to be, as i hate the guy, but yes. Sangy or Guilly

Probably sanguinius because he still went to protect the emporor even though he knew he would die. That's what I call honour.

Sanguinius probably. He was the loyalist version of Horus; popular, intelligent and tough as nails. Gulliman was smart, but he specialized in building up new societies, not tearing down old ones, and he was kinda unpopular relative to some of the other Primarchs like Fulgrim, Sanguinius, Horus and Vulkan.

Yes, but at that time the Golden Throne wasn't meant for the Imperiums leader, it was basically a gateway to the webway, which the golden throne psychically protected, since he could not replicate the Eldars psychically protected material. Magnus was meant to power the golden throne and this psychic defense of the human built link and be the gatekeeper, not the next leader.

Horus was on record as saying Sanguinus should have been warmaster, as he contained in perfect balance all of the Emperor's qualities. So he'd get my vote.

IMHO, all of them should have gotten a throne next to the Emperor's, and they all channel their power to match the Emperor, sort of like a government rather than an Imperial Monarchy. Except Horus wouldn't be their, and he would have a statue instead, and their would be 2 empty chairs.

I agree. This is how it should have turned out, but IIRC the emperor wished for it to be standard humans in charge, instead of his super modified leader sons and his super warrior guarding legions.

In Visions of Darkness Lorgar compares Guilliman to Horus, Sanguinius and Dorn. I have no idea why people think Guilliman is the unpopular Primarch. I think it’s just the fanbase’s collective dislike of the Ultramarines influencing perceptions.

Probably. I still have not figured out why people don't like him, and by extension, the UM.
They give reasons sure, but some of the reasons that people have given me have been...well, pretty stupid.

I never thought Gulliman was disliked by the other Primarchs. However, it didn't seem like he was very close to them.
For example, Horus was described as being best buds with Mortarion, Fulgrim, Sanguinius, Perturabo and Alpharius.
Fulgrim was described as being best buds with Ferrus and Horus.
Sanguinius was best buds with pretty much everyone. No one can deny that.
Even the weirdo Magnus was best buds with the weirdo Lorgar.
But Gulliman was never really described as best buds with anyone at all. He wasn't disliked, but he wasn't popular either.

Sanguinius would be the next Emperor. Magnus would hold the Webway secure and the Astronomican operational until enough Eldar technology was reverse-engineered to permanently stabilize the Imperial Webway.

I should have left him there. He had served his purpose. He owed me nothing - yet he gave himself to me willingly. Why? I know not. He is nothing more than a pathetic human. An inferior race. A mon-keigh. But still I broke off my wings so that I might carry him easier. I took him from that place, into the snowstorm where our tracks will not be found. He is heavy. And he is dying. And he is slowing me down. But I will save him. Why? I know not. He is still warm. I can feel his blood ebbing across me. For every beat of his heart, another, slight spill of heat. The heat blows away on the winter wind. His blood is still warm. But fading. And I have spilled scarlet myself. The snow laps greedily at our footsteps and our lifeblood, covering them without a trace as we fade away.
'She sat on the corner, gulping the soup down, uncaring of the heat of it. They had grown more watery as of late she noted, but she wasn't about to beggar food from the Imperials or the "Bearers of the Word." Tau, despite their faults at least didn't have a kill policy for her race.' |
