I've been looking at the Necron Codex for a few days now and have drawn a few conclusions:

Crypteks are awesome.
Necron Lords are awesome.
Crypteks and Necron Lords in a cohesive Royal Court w/ Overlord are a big, squishy Kill Point.

Most of the Necron lists I've seen involve taking two Royal Courts so you can split up the Crypteks/Lords between units of Warriors. There doesn't seem to be any real reason to keep the Crypteks/Lords together. You don't get any special bonuses for keeping them together, and I think that's an oversight. So what I'm looking for here are some rules proposals to make keeping them together worthwhile.

Some ideas I had:

Surrounded by Fools: Once per Assault phase, if a Necron Overlord is in cohesion with a Royal Court and would take an unsaved Wound, he may instead nominate another member of the Royal Court to take that Wound.

Fight! Fight You Cowards! If a Necron Overlord is in cohesion with a Royal Court, each member of that court gains a bonus Attack during the Assault Phase.

Threat of Death: The Royal Court fears its Overlord more than they fear the enemy - if a Necron Overlord is in cohesion with a Royal Court, each member of that court gains the Fearless Special Rule.

Tactical Withdrawal: If a Necron Overlord is in cohesion with a Royal Court, and that Royal Court is locked in melee combat, the Necron Overlord may choose to disengage from the melee, sacrificing his minions in the name of the greater good - himself. The Royal Court, minus the Necron Overlord, is still considered locked in melee combat. The enemy player may not attempt a Sweeping Advance against the Necron Overlord in this case.

Just thought id mention that i played a practice game with my crons vs daemons. I used 2 royalwings ( my name for him ) consisting of 5 crypteks, 5 lords and an overlord or special character. It worked okay.

I like the surrounded by fools and tactical withdrawal. However the Fight! Fight you cowards needs a name change as it doesn't sound very necrony, but thats coming from a dark eldar and space wolf player .

Tournament record: (W/D/L)
Space wolves : 1/1/1
Dark Eldar : 6/0/1 (1 overall win)
Daemons :8/0/2 (1 overall win)
Normal games starting 5/11/12:
Dark Eldar 13/0/1
Daemons 32/1/1
Friends armies 1/0/0

I like the idea, but I don't think it adresses the main problem of the Royal Court - Too many points, too small survivability. For me, they'd need a delivery system, and currently the only delivery system is stealing a car-- err, Ghost Ark.
Other than that, I really like the rules. Seem balanced enough whilst still providing enough extra punch.
Oh, and for name.... Hmm.. I have no idea
"Slaughter the lesser beings!" perhaps?

I think the easiest way to solve this is to allow an Overlord to take a Night Scythe or Ghost Ark as a dedicated transport for normal points cost. Would give them a little more options for getting around the field without needing to pile in with Warrior squads.

Yes, but then again, I wouldn't let an Overlord take a Ghost Ark. I get a feeling that the Ghost Ark is only meant for warriors.
So the Nighty Scythy it would be.

5 Cyrpteks in an ark is pretty good, 15 S5 ap3 shots, or all with haywire staffs will eat any tank.

Rick Priestley said it best:
Bryan always said that if the studio ever had to mix with the manufacturing and sales part of the business it would destroy the studio. And I have to say – he wasn’t wrong there! The modern studio isn’t a studio in the same way; it isn’t a collection of artists and creatives sharing ideas and driving each other on. It’s become the promotions department of a toy company – things move on!
