Nothing at all? Not even any generalisations, like having wings for example like Sanguinius.

That's sort of the point about their whole "mystery". They were totally destroyed. Even the Primarchs aren't allowed to talk about them to each other.

We can't even be sure of that.
It's implied that their numbers strengthened the Ultramarines. Dorn thinks that the missing Primarchs are available to help with the Heresy. Leman Russ states that he knows at least one of them is dead.
The Primarchs themselves weren't even unified in their beliefs of what happened. Only the Emperor and Malcador knew for certain.

"'players must agree how they are going to select their armies, and if any restrictions apply to the number and type of models they can use."
This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.

They're intentionally vague so people can come to their own conclusions and start chapters based on their lost geneseed or whatever. It's seen as one of the lamer pratfalls of DIY Marine chapters though.

Yeah, the idea of using a "lost legion" for your Chapter is just kinda silly. We know they were destroyed, utterly, we know they weren't females (sorry kids), we know it was something bad, and something that some of the Primarchs felt they should have seen coming.
But that's really it. It's like Dark Elves being the go to lame ass fantasy bad guys.

Well the 11th all had gills and fins, and they were just the minor gene-seed faults. The major fault is the fusing of the legs into a tail.
As for the 2nd, well they just didn't fit the Emperor's over all plan, their Primarch Edward was a disgrace to all his brothers and his strange allergic reaction to sunlight that he shared with his marines was a major bummer, no rash should sparkle like that.

The thing I never understood about the unknown legions is this and nothing else:
Compared to what Horus did, what could they do to even compare?

Clearly they did something worse...
Or they got caught and murdered to death.
Horus and his followers were never caught and murderised.

It's not about what they did worse. Remember, the Horus Heresy was so gigantic there was no concealing it. However, what we the players know because we have the twenty years worth of game books and novels to read far eclipses what the average Imperium citizen, or even Space Marine knows about Chaos or the Heresy. The expunged legions were obliterated before the Heresy, probably because they fell to Chaos, or Mutation, or rebelled and their existence was suppressed to keep the knowledge of what they did wrong a secret. The knowledge of the existence of the Chaos gods was even more limited during the Great Crusade, and realistically, human knowledge and awareness of the Chaos gods is in part what increased their power and influence in the galaxy. That and the need to sell Chaos models. The expunged legions were caught first.
