Over the past... 8ish years I've started and failed to complete many 40K armies, largely because when I was younger I lacked the money and focus required to collect a large (or even playable) amount of any one force before something new came out and captured my attention. In that time I have also managed to slowly improve my painting skills to what I would assume now qualifies as an average level. Now older, wiser and slightly better off I have started the newly released necrons as an army, recently having posted various units in various stages across the Painting and MOdelling section until I was certain I would stick with this enough to merit actually starting a blog.

The theme for my Necron army is the remenants of the () that found shelter in a nearby Dyansty when the Silent King brought destruction to their worlds prior to the war in heaven, the new concepts of the crypteks are what first fascinated me about the newcrons and the idea of the architects of the greatest technological races arcane powers brought my imagination to life. For this reason upon emerging from their slumber the Crypteks have usurped their would be protectors and instealled themselves among the royal court of their new empire.

This gives me plenty of chances for conversion opportunities within my army, the crypteks reshaping the very essense of those around them as they strive to revive the technological prowess that once garnered so much fear from the ruling powers of the Necrontyr Race.

And now moving onto some models:

Cryptek Overlord, High Phaeron of the Dynasty and Mender of the Broken Ways: Excelling in crafting those around him to new strength his potency was limited by being cursed by a C'Tan in their final battles, the very shell that housed him beginning to crumble with localised temporal decay he was forces to create a containment vessel to hold his form together. In game terms this counts as Septemineral Weave as an energy barrier millimetres from his cold metal skin holds him together.

Prime Immortals of the Phaeron: Not willing to simple suffer standard troops as his elite guards the Phaeron crafted more regal, intellegant and elegant guards for himself, in game terms these count as Immortals with Gauss Blasters (relentless when accompanying Phaeron). Thus far I have only completed two of them (and only have pictures of one), but in time they will become a fully formed squad.

Court of the Phaeron: Formed largely of Crypteks and Lords that capitulated at the death of the previous Phaerons they each seek to define their new form as much as possible, utilising vain additions of false hair or jewellery to try and regain some measure of the individuality they had in life. Crypteks in this dynasty are held in far higher regard than in others, and Lords find themselves viewed with more suspicion as they come from a conquered dynasty and yet sword over loyalty so quickly.

And then the staff heads for the crypteks current under construction:

I have also been trying to carry over my colour scheme to the various other items in my army, the original test models being the destroyer, destroyer lord and warrior below. I am currently in the process of assembling/painting my annihilation barge which seems to be taking forever to take form and taking more paint than I had originally anticipated (I've ran out of foundation atm so I've stalled on it). Next up on the list are:

4 Immortal Primes
6 more Warriors
3 more Crypteks
2 more Destroyers
12 Tesla Immortals
4 Wraiths (as and when they come out)

And ofcourse actually finishing the Barge.

Destroyer WIP

Destroyer Lord

And the one completed Warrior

More to come soon when I find some camera batteries and get a second to convert.

Half way through assembling my second immortal prime, I've borrowed the banner off of the marauder horsemen sprue abd after extensive milliputting its now attatched. Just waiting on delivery of 6 gauss cannons, WIP pictures up soon.

Contemplating skyboard conversions with doubled up gauss blasters to count as tomb blades but look more regal.

Just a quick update with some WIP shots. I've managed to get the torso's/legs of my warriors squad complete and am now just mustering the effort to paint up the gauss flayer. For some reason its that part of the warriors that causes me the most issues to paint and whilst I have done one (see previous post) the rest are really eating away at any motivation that I previously had to do them, I'm slowly getting back to these bit by bit in-between other models to break up the monotony of painting the same thing multiple times:

Next up is a destroyer I finished a while ago, hence the dust that seems to have settled on the paint job (its dry, just cant be bothered to dust it atm)::

My Immortal Prime with Banner that I will eventually muster the courage to actually paint/draw the army symbols onto, currently the concept of doing so might well ruin the banner so I may seek outside help:

And finally my annihilation barge WIP, that's been in progress about a month now but slowly getting added to:

Wow a banner on necrons. What did you get that from it fits really well. What is the cron going to be carrying near the banner?

Banner carrier will be one of the phaerons immortals, he'll have the sane gun as the immortal prime in first post when it arrives. Banner is from chaos marauder horseman kit with undivided symbol filed off.

Also built a skyboard for my counts as tomb blade, slow progress and need to gs the cracks but pics up soon.

Thanks for the comments guys. Nice to know people approve

Just a quick picture of the WIP skyboard, this is before cleanup and milliput application but I'm pretty happy with the way its turning out. Changed the theme of its pilot as I went to a not quite so necrontyr (but still necron).

Thinking maybe a more instinctual hunter vassal state that got converted with the race, limited conversion involved (extended back of the head to a fan shape, clawed hands/feet and a more hunched position with the weaponry either mounted from is back, or from under the board I've yet to decide.

C&C on the idea before I shape it would be great.

A bit of a development on the skyboarder front, my brother managed to persaude me that regardless of what race prior to conversion the necrons would all look like similar bessels (sucks I know but it makes the conversion a little easier). I've managed to make up my Tomb Blade out of Spares mostly from the Lychguard, Warriors and Barge kits.

He's just missing a few cleanups and some last minute additions (his head will be wired into the board power source, litles of filing off waste milliput.

Would love some opinions on him.

With a few layers of paint on he seems to be coming together pretty well, the paint is still wet in this photo so it comes across as alot more gloss and rippled than it will hopefully dry. Had to detatch the upper torso in order to access the rest of the mini properly, though it came off nicely and undamaged.

Cheers, conversion is as follows:

Lychguard Shield
Blade mount from 3 war scythes to form engine power generators
Orbs/Mount from back of a Praetorian torso to form focal point
Blades from cut Scythes used at from of Board to make under slung blades.

Warrior torso/leg/head reposed
And the weapon is a war scythe handle with underslung gauss cannon from an annihilation barge kit and GS.

I've been on nights on the build up to Christmas which seems to have severely dented my ability (and time) to paint, this epiphany came to me shortly after starting the torso for the sky boarder and finding the basic fundaments of painting lost to me (his gun looks rather naff atm).

For this reason I've given him a break till after xmas and been working on a few other concepts I had knocking around, I've just got a hold of some cheap Tomb King Tomb Guard bodies off of ebay and am looking on necroning them up a little. Mostly it'll involve plating up the limbs and putting in some metallic joints but they should make respectable Necrons when they're done.

I'm thinking of using these as a cryptek and his own elites as a kind of "mercenary" unit within the army (Immortals)

Not intentionally seasonal though as soon as I saw anything referred to as christmascrons my heart sank and little bit at my own colour scheme.

Still I picked the colours because they stand out well together and I like the look.

Another update on the Tomb Blade, this is the point at which I have left him for now, he needs alot of cleaning up but the paint had gone on a little thick in the end due to my lack of focus after working nights so I'll be doing what I can to redeem him and fleshing out the squad better when I have more time to focus on the paint job properly.

Head came off some time during painting and ricocheted across the room so I'll find a spare, but he's nearly ready to join the rest of my growing army.

Thanks, I find the colour scheme pretty interesting to paint despite the basic colours and its enough to keep me going.

The tomb blade meanwhile has been very hit and miss since I first got bored and started playing with my bits box, I'm really happy with how the model turned out and the paint job is growing on me slowly.

This is the second skyboarder midway through construction, he needs alot of tweaking and fine tuning still and theres some notable filing to be done when the milliput has set a little more solid. With this one I've tried to incorperate a more streamlined feel to the power source, adding in what resembles a wraith like tail to the back of it and using this concept as an almost living board as the user rides it. I am happy with the variety I can produce within my tomb blade counts as since they are meant to be "evolved" tech, a matter of trial and error that the tomb world is still perfecting.

C&C welcome

Cheers, they seem to be taking shape really well, glad someone else likes them.

Just to throw something else I had been dwelling on out there, this has no in game representation but its my attempt at a human worked on by the Overlord in his tests for advancement, bit rough around the edges but it conveys the concept well enough.

I didnt choose it perse, I was convinced by a local hobby shop owner that milliput was similar and like half the price. Having no experience with GS yet I am hoping GS is easier to use and gives smoother results.

Using the milliput atm is like trying to make a masterpiece out of day old playdough. Gets very frustrating, ofcourse that could well be a combination of lack of experience and lack of technical skills.

I have some but I've never actually tried it. GS has it's advantages, but it can also be very frustrating at times. Perhaps it's a case of choosing the right medium for the right job.

Christmas has led to the accquisition of an airbrush, some green stuff and some more crons so I'm setting to work about getting some more painting and converting done. However my lack of airbrush skills has resulted in one horribly painted lord and the depletion of all three reds I use. Therefore come friday I resupply and starting again!

Given the current paint lacking dilema I have been playing about with pares from the Immortals kit that I got for xmas. I'm running the immortals as an all tesla squad as I have already converted up samples for me Gauss Immortals from other parts.

This left the gauss blasters and all the deathmark bits as spares, since I have yet to come across a decent particle weaponry sub I set about making one out of the gauss blaster and deathmark gun, and used a deathmark head as a nebuloscope on my tomb blades.

This is what I've ended up with: Tomb Blade with Nebuloscope and Particle Shredder

The sample for the gauss immortal is in an earlier post, and I'm happy with the continuity through the theme.
