I have never played fantasy and I am wondering if wood elves are a competitive army in fantasy. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Well they are bottom tier if thats what you are asking. Strong magic items but lacking in that extra umph that you need in eight.

Edit: but ofc they can win games and playing them can be cool. So if it your army of choice, roll with it.

heres the models I would have available to me.
Is this a good force? or a good start?

40 glade guard (only around 15 assembled, the rest off sprue)
15 glade riders
13-15 wardancers (old and new mixed)
13-18 waywatchers (mix of old and new models)
1 treeman ancient (the old special character guy)
3 warhawks (no riders)
1 great eagle (missing one foot)
1 spell weaver
15 dryads (new plastics primed black)

I appreciate the help

As I understand it, the best Wood Elf armies now are low on Glade Guard, and very, very heavy on Dryads, Treekin, and Treemen.

Eh, it depends.

The issue with Wood Elves is that they're utterly incapable of grinding out a combat. Their only rank-and-file troops are horrendously expensive and very, very squishy.

Beyond that, Dryads take up too much space now. Small units are ineffective, and big units are awkward.

Treekin are wicked, as always. Treemen are good, but keep your BSB nearby.

Glade Guard are actually quite effective from what I've seen. Just accept losing a bunch of them. Against elite troops, though, they can shoot their points back pretty quick, though.

Is that the one with Mark Borland? That was good, but he got a bit moany. I think I read something after the fact where he mentioned not meaning to get so down on the book.

“It was in lands of the Chi-An where she finally ran him to ground. There she kissed him deeply as he lay dying, and so stole from him his last, agonized breath.

On a delicate chain at her throat, she keeps it with her to this day.”
