I have not based them all yet. I have more painted and not pictured here as well. I am thinking I would like to bring the recesses on the bases down a shade. The pictures have not that great lighting, when I use dakkas auto adjust it tends to make the colors very flat. I think I will retry with sunlight another time. Anyways anyone have any general thoughts? CC welcome! I plan on doing a little more on these guys as it is a squad based game so I can have a little more time spent on painting fewer mini's! SiJuan, this guy has a mobile form and a combat form, the kit comes with both models so you do not need to buy 2! Shang Ji Before basing and a few details, but better light pic. Zanshi + Shang Ji's back.

Looking good.
Main issue is glare off the background (it washes out the foreground).
A polarising filter can help there.

Looking good. I'd say go ahead an up the contrast on the basing a tad, like you were considering. Compared to the lovely figure above it, it seems a bit flat.
Also, while I know it's a bit off-topic, I've got to ask - looking through your gallery, I see you've done your fair share of 40k painting. How did the Infinity figs compare? I've got two starter forces mostly assembled, but after seeing the scale and detail firsthand, I can't imagine painting the things! Feels like I've been spoiled by beefy bodies and oversized heads. Has GW ruined me for the true-scale world, or am is it simply a matter of making sure my brushes have nice, sharp points?

Thanks for the input folks, most appreciated.
oadie, the figures scale is not as much of an issue I think. There is less large flat surfaces but the level of detail is comparable. I do mainly use my detail brush on figures, but that is personal taste. I have a friend who does everything with a size 1 brush and is an excellent painter. His dark eldar are magnificent and their scale is similar to Infinity. As for brushes I prefer a size 0 and my 20/0 detail. That last brush I mentioned is an odd size, but it is comparable in size to the GW detail brush but has decently stiff bristles.

Thanks for the report, J-Roc. I only have Orks and SM, so I've been using somewhat battered old brushes for a while, since I can still manage models on the scale of boys well enough. I'm thinking it's time to start getting used to newer, pointier brushes while the canvas is large, so I'll know how they act when I make the jump to smaller models.

Nice work.
The Domaru is pretty crisp. shang-ji is solid, with good highlights.
One of the reasons I went JSA - I loathe yellow and the zhanshi are showing their age (they are some of the game's older models) - I just preferred the hakama wearing keisotsu.

While I do have a start for the ISS I have been thinking of the JSA as well, I like how the domaru butai models look. I am not partial to the JSA TAG the Gūijiă, I prefer the O-Yoroi. I do not know what models to work on next, yao kong remotes, tiger soldiers, celestial guard (for a linked team) or a ninja. My list is a little bit every where. I just started grabbing models i wanted to paint with no rhyme or reason.

I have a rhyme or reason for mine. I don't grab models I don' like (and there are still an awful lot of them I don't like, even in the infinity range.).
Paint what you like, play with what you like (within limits, JSA can't use tiger soldiers, for example).
