This isn't the thread to list the moments in 40k you think are the best, but to debate as to which is THE BEST.

I'd say the conflict between Horus and the Emperor. The entire HH sets it up and the artwork for it is amazing. I hope those BL authors don't butcher it.

I've always liked Yriel's return to save Alaitoc against Hive Fleet Kraken. Has a very Han Soloish feel to it.

Ghazghkull's sack of Piscina IV.

And no, I don't say that just because I'm an Ork fanboy (ok, ok, that's PART of the reason). It's because of the gak he does there.

First off, he unveils the first Ork tellyportas, causing mass confusion among the Imperial ranks and mass amusement among the Orks.

Then, he fights Belial and breaks his spine. The Grand Master of the Deathwing, hammering Orks left and right, and then Ghazghkull beats him down like a wolf savaging a chipmunk. A good time was had by all.

Eventually, all the Dark Angels show up, the whole chapter, along with what is clearly a large force of Imperial Guard, and after a while Ghazghkull gets bored and leaves. Now, why do I say he left, as opposed to he was driven off?

Well, because he smashed a Warlord Titan and then wrote the most epic brag ever on the wreckage. That doesn't seem like the act of someone who's LOSING the war.

The Battle for the Temple of the Emperor Ascendant. It confirmed that the Black Templars are some the of the hardcore badasses in the IoM.

There's one for each race and each time period really.

The Tau would likely see the unification due to the appearance of the Ethereal's as a key moment, where as the IoM would see it as the time that storm got in the way of a routine xeno purging.

The first major confrontation between IoM and DE. EVERYTHING was covered in blood and it was generally messy.

Chaplain Grimaldus kicking ork ass and to survive a temple crushing him that is awesome.

When Ragnar finally kills (not really...sadface) Madox.

When Kantor is fighting the Ork Warboss on Rynn's world. He has the savage pinned under his powerfist and starts punching him in the face as hard as he can screaming insults and going on about how the Ork dared to attack his homeworld. Totally cheered on the train when I read that.

When tau were tricked by DE into giving lots of men, they ran after DE in space only to find that their world was left unguarded to a massive DE invasion.

This and the HH in general. It was an epic battle of brother vs brother and father vs son that tore the galaxy apart and has shaped 40k

Cortez one lining that he hasn't lost his hand and pointing to it after an ork warboss ripped it off and threw it at Pedro Kantor. Pretty much best 40k moment ever!

When Kryptman realized steering a Tyranid Hive Fleet into the Ork Empire in Octarian wasn't the smartest move in the galaxy. Or when Inquisitor Czevark finally gets his hands on the Eldar Artifact that could transfer the Emperor's soul into another body just to watch it get destroyed by Death Watch. Or the Age of Apostasy. I think the former is the BEST moment concerning the future of a Tyranid/Ork threat.

I would say when Archon Kelithresh opens a nice present from vect, unleashing a black hole the consumes his entire kabal is up there.

I would say, without doubt, the best moment in all of 40k is when the Belladon reinforcements first turn up in Salvation's Reach. Had me in fits for a couple of hours...
