Let's keep IG Guard out of this discussion as we know their parking lots can be expensive.
I'll start by saying Dark Eldar Haemonculis Coven.
Grotesques are mono-pose and $20 each. For a unit for 6 that's over $120. Also having Multiple Haemonculi in an army can be expensive.
Wracks are $33 each so a unit of 10 is $66... 2x 10 is $132 and these are TROOPS
Lastly: All of these are not sold by 3rd party like thewarstore and must be from direct from GW only so no discounts for you.
Craftworld Eldar Jetbike Army can be mind bogglging....

Biker marines is expensive too...
$15 a bike is a lot, especially when you want to make a list with 30-40 bikes in it.
Blood Angels can be expensive, Assault Marines cost $33 for 5 as well.

A walking Meganob army, with Deffcopta support. 50 Meganobs (20 as troops, 30 as elites), Ghazzy, a Mega Armored Warboss, and 9 Deffcoptas with Buzzsaws. That's a grand (1000 USD) for the Nobs alone. Ghazzy's another 40, 300 for the Deffcoptas (All Metal. I assume we can only buy what GW sells on their store) and 75 for their buzzsaw arms. I hope to god that I never see someone ru

How about SoB?
The gold standard for expensive armies.
Celestine - $20
Jacobus - $15
6 DCA, 2 Crusaders - $90
7 Girls, 2 Meltas and 1 Superior - $68.80
7 Girls, 2 Meltas and 1 Superior - $68.80
Rhino x2 - $66
Dominions x3 (2 Girls, Superior, 2 Melta) - $170.2
Immolators x 3 - $105
Exorcists x3 - $180
$783.8 for ~1500 points.
50 Meganobz + Ghazzy is over 2225 with no upgrades. That's a silly list.

most of GW products are outrageously expensive in my opinion to be honest. Plus the fact that it is rumoured that we are in transition to a new edition, this make all this even worse because you ask yourself : should I buy this now at the risk of seeing in the new edition it's worthless? And will it still be okay when I'll get a new codex? That's why I took the resolution to move to WarmaHordes. Don't get me wrong, Warhammer and W40k are fantastics universes, the game and the models are fantastic, but seriously, I think GW doesn't do it easy for us. So I will stay with WarmaHordes until I get rich or that GW owners get mentally more stable.

Nope, I ask myself will the new ones coming be cool enough to get along with the ones I bought today? Most often the answer is yes, old units not as good next edition, use them as stand ins for something else, and really I've never had to do that either.

Any eldar army with Aspect warriors is really expenise. Seeing how the metal packs are pricy and you need to buy at least two to form one unit. Plus the most common build is mech making waves serpents and fire prizms a must purchase. I have a large Eldar army and it was quite pricy to buy the warlocks, jetbikes , aspects...etc

Oops, I meant the only thing plastic for Nurgle daemons!
10 Plaguebearers including the icon/instrument cost $66(can), so slightly more expensive than 3 bloodcrushers!
Add to that $20.75 per 2 nurgling bases & $30 per beast of nurgle, (but they suck anyways), and you've got yourself the most expensive daemon army! IF you go mono-nurgle!!!
But (thankfully?!) mono nurgle sucks in the current meta of mech-spam.

I concur - full blown Dark Eldar Coven is ridiculously expensive.
To max out the options (foot / mounted) it's:
HQ:
6x Haemonculi @ £10.50 each - £63 = 390pts
Elites:
30 Grotesques @ £12.50 each - £375 = 1125pts
3 Raiders @ £20.50 each - £61.50 = 210pts
Troops:
60 Wracks @ £20.50 per 5 - £246 = 870pts
6 Venoms @ £18.50 each - £111 = 390pts
6 Raiders @ £20.50 each - £123 = 420pts
Fast Attack:
30 Scourges @ £15.50 per 5 - £93 = 780pts
Heavy Support:
3 Talos Pain Engine @ £28 each - £84 = 330pts
A total of £1156.5 and 4515, of which 2455-3915 point is usable at any given time in a game.
Your standard 1500pt coven is still £556.50

It's still £600 or so for the first 1500-2000pts.
It's then another £600 to bump it to the 3000-4000 point collection.
A coven averages around £10 per model.
Considering you can generally build a 1500-2000point force for £200-300, and a 3000-4000point army for £500-600 a covens a lot.
I could go worse to with 3 £250 beast units instead of the scourges, or 2 £160 Archon and court units.

My 3200pts GK list army cost less about £200. I deliberately got ultra-elite, loads of paladins, etc!
Seriously though no one has mentioned nids, could really cost some if you go for the 'right' army:
(priceas are approximate from memory, I can't be bothered to look them up, but they're about right!)
Hive Tyrant + 3 tyrant guard = @£80
3 x pyrovore @£60
3 x lictor @£45
3 x zoanthrope/hive guard @£45
With gaunts coming in 12s you need 3 boxes for a unit of 30, or 5 boxes for two units:
60 X termies @£90
60 x hormies @£90
9 x warriors @£75
30 x gargoyles @£60
9 x raveners @£83
carnifex brood (3x) @£93
3 x biovore @£60
If that's vanilla it is about 2750pts or so. The cost? About £780 or so. I've not filled out the FOC slots here so it could be more. You've still got a troops, a fast attack and a heavy support slot to go, plus and HQ. Ouch!!!!!!

Not really I bought 7 boxes (my tanks need guys sticking out of the top so I know which has the standard load out and which has the hammers heavy load out.) Instead of the metal DCA's I converted Dark Eldar Wytches and I'm trying to scratch build the auto cannon arms. Luckily I'm still building and I'm stretching it out over time.
The rules said direct from GW not through a 3rd party like a store that sells bits, I can't buy the hammers direct from GW with out buying a full box of greyknights.
The depressing part is on the lists I put up they are actually what I am running (using counts as models with some of the old meal grey knights in the mean time due to not having all the models and my dreads don't have arms yet while I build the list out fully and make changes.) Luckily some of the stuff I had because I DH was my second army and the one I've stuck with, was also what forced me to take a break from the game in part.
It's not some odd number list or points heavy list or a list that is made to be expensive. The 2 lists are the 2 standard tournament size 1750 and 2500 its not a full FOC list.
