In the Ork Codex there is a story about how even when Orks are defeated their spores spread and new Orks are born, though in such savage state it can take generations before they have learned and grown enough to be a threat again.
So I thought my army might take I a few of the savage Orks. I got a set of Fantasy savage orks and am combining them with bits from 40k Boyz. They will either fright as regular boys or as kommandos (since they are skilled hunters). Here's the first few:
I like the concept of the Snakebites, and have been basing some of my army's backstory on them. Anyone else have stories/ideas/ examples of primitive irks joining in with their (relatively) sophisticated ork peers?

I was in the thought process of using savage orcs as kommandos, and now I see it can be done. Well done!
As for fluff I know that in Armageddon feral orks have been known to attack imperial outposts in the jungles and join "modern" orks in a Waaagh.

There used to be a chapter approved list for this concept back in the day. It looked pretty fun and thematic and given the huge base of fantasy models you can combine with (that and general ork flexibility) you can get something really special.

I think they add color to an ork army. I would use them as Kommandos.

If they're feral orks, don't give them guns. Make them choppy, or make some rules for using fantasy arrow boyz

While feral Orks do tend to be more of the choppy persuasion, they are also prone to using anything they salvage from the more technologically advanced enemies. As such, feral orks can have guns, they will just be in short supply. If you run a mob of feral orks alongside a more conventional ork army though, them having guns would be pretty normal.

Also, it doesn't necessarily take generations for feral Orks to get 'civilized'. For one thing, Orks don't really have generations. They're constantly reproducing for thei entire lives as they shed spores, and their lifespans aren't clearly established (since accidents and violence claim almost all Orks). Ork civilizashun happens when Ferals run into Orks with more 'kultur' or when they loot/build enough Ork tek on their own.
However, Orks without Gunz can still be a serious threat to any planet that's not fully prepared to wage all-out war against them. Choppas alone can be a problem, but the plethora of squigs and Squiggoths (and boarboy cavalry if you want to go back several editions) are a clear and present danger to the majority of IOM worlds.
My two cents.

I don't think orcs can die of old age, not there likely to long anyway.

That makes sense actually.
More primitive Orks who are equipped with some combination of bows and arrows, thrown weapons, single-shot weapons / weapons but don't have much ammo laying around.. Will pay at least a bit more attention to where they point their weapon and how they fire it.
Where as 'modern' orks have no such concern because they can shoot their own weight in bullets down range every minute or so. Aiming becomes secondary when you're firing a literal wall of bullets.

Wildboyz is the term for sticks & stones level Orks, Ferals are more advanced ~ the Epic: Armageddon Feral Ork list even included steam-powered gargants.

Then-as-now all Orks in the vanilla Codex were BS2. Feral Ork Boyz were all BS3.

No not true in 2 ND edition all orks werde BS 3 just snotlings were BS 2. then some major yerkass Art GW got the genius idea To change that. It s right here in Codex imperialis in page 54. Nobs were even at BS 4, big bosses at BS 5 and warbosses Art BS 6!! Yes Yorks once were intended To beat up SM with their rhinos and landraiders just running in their feet. Man those times are long gone.

Bonkers Buggy Driver with Rockets
|
I picked up the start colecting fantasy orks.
I converted the boar chariot into a warbuggy. I just replaced the wagon wheels with trukk wheels. I put rokets on the end of their spears...snake bite warbuggy with tl roket.
The boar boyz are gonna get the warbike conversion (with saddle dakka guns and Sluggas in hand), also gonna replace the boar legs with robotic ones for cyboars.
The warboss on warboss is going to be the nob warbiker.
Even fantasy orks in general make good snakebites. The collecting box set was a great start on that.

Orks riding Boars use to be a thing when Chapter Approved was still there. There was even an option to upgrade it to a "Cyboar" (although I forgot what the bonus was). They were basically Ork Bikers. In general Fantasy Orcs make for some great conversion opportunities.
