I kinda just want the mini rulebook, since it's only mini in physical size. Apparently the 294 page mini book is still the complete rules, unlike the Open Fire mini rulebook.

I'm intrigued about this.
Just wanted to note though, the Open Fire mini rulebook is basically the complete rules. If I recall correctly, isn't it only missing the rules for fortifications and some stuff that only concerns pioneers? Whatever it's lacking is pretty minor, and only shows up in a few specific situations.

Good news for everybody there, I'll admit that I've been very critical of the way BF has conducted its business this year, they have gone up in my estimation.
The Lieutenant is a Punk! And a pretty 2nd rate Punk at that.......
I can't play the video at work so just going on the comments.
What is so good about a free mini rulebook when you have a hardback?
1) You still have to have a hardback book to get this OR
2) You have to buy a new mini rulebook presumably with another Open Fire starter set?
I may have missed something from the video (apologies for my security conscious employer) but I am still having to buy something from only having a mini-rulebook v2....
@Pacific - According to my local game store owner, we'll be able to go into the store when the rulebook arrives, get our v2 books stamped, and then he'll give us the mini v3 book.
@ambler - The hardback rules won't be coming out until March, I believe he said. And since this book should contain the full rules, you shouldn't need to get the hardback if you don't want to.
God, I love this company. Perfect timing for somebody who is getting into the game. Up yours GW
Lanark, nobody knows what the box set will be for v3, but there is a good chance of one.

You're not forced to get a new hardback book if you already have one. The new V3 mini rulebook will have everything that's going to be in the V3 hardback, meaning that you only need to buy a new hardback if you want one.

Not sure what, if anything, they're planning on doing for people who have a mini-V2.

iirc, it's also missing most of the missions, which takes a lot away from the game. The wide variety of missions is one of the game's strong points, imo. Also, pioneers are a big deal in most of the lists I play. If you include a pioneer platoon and a Pioneer Supply Vehicle, then you get some free minor fortifications in a mission that uses the Defensive Battles special rule. Playing against an infantry company? Throw down three sections of barbed wire to slow them down. Defending against tanks instead? Use a minefield to force the enemy to take a less than optimal route to reach you.
Was thinking of grabbing the hard cover v2 rule book after christmas but I think now I will just hold off until March.
The mini book from Open Fire should still be enough to keep a noob to FoW such as myself going until the new version comes out, still has pretty much anything I will need for getting my head around the game and it still has 7 scenarios in the back.
I am still used to the way GW does things so 6 years out of a core rules edition is amazing, nice to know that it will take a while before v3 becomes outdated
40K - some Guard, some green marines and some green skins
Warmahordes - the mighty Khador
FoW - US 3rd Infantry Division Rifle Company - US 2nd Armoured Division 'Hell on Wheels'
