Hey guys,

I was looking through the BA codex and I saw that Chaplains were an elite choice instead of an hq choice such as in the normal space marine codex. does that mean chaplains can't be an HQ choice in a BA army?

thanx

They have a Reclusiarch as a a Chaplain HQ instead.

Hope this is what you are looking for.

The Reclusiarch work well, but I have found that a librarian works better.

Librarian does the Chaplain's job better since he has Unleash Rage. Don't bother with a Chaplain or a Reclusiarch.

Well, the Reclusiarch is one thing, seing as how you could take a Liby or Astorath to do it better, but as an Elites, and if you really need those few extra choppy models, even more choppy, the Chappy is good, especially as an upgrade to Death Company.

You are probably better off getting a second librarian. instead of the Chaplain.

I agree. If you really want a Chaplain with Death Company though you could include Lemartes as part of the squad. He's pretty awesome in his own right.

If you play against anything that has decent psychic defense, the reclusiarch can be better, so dont poopoo entirely the idea. He also has an extra wound which can occasionally be handy.

The Chaplain brings a couple of things to the party:
1. His ability can't fail a psychic test, nor can it be blocked by a hood.
2. When attached to Death Company, he also allows them to re-roll to wound.
3. The Chaplain re-roll works against vehicles, which the Librarian's Unleash Rage does not, as it grants Preferred Enemy. Thus a squad with a chaplain and a fist or two (and even a pile of S5 regular attacks) can fairly reliably whack fast-moving vehicles even though you need 6s to hit them. Sadly it only works on the turn you assault, which is not as nice as Unleash Rage being able to be used every round of assault.

The Reclusiarch does all of the above, plus has a good HtH character statline (substantially better than the Librarian's) and a built-in Invulnerable Save, while filling your required HQ spot, for not a whole lot more points than a Libby.

Overall the Librarian is still the most efficient choice in most lists, thanks to bringing psychic defense to the party, and army-enhancing powers like Shield, but it's not quite so one-sided in his favor as some folks make out.
