I have 1 squad of 5 sanguinary guard and dante, I keep reading I need more sanguinary guard - I have a ton of other points I've allocated here and there that I would rather not stray from.
What're the pro's and con's of having the 1 sang guard and the opposite having more.
I also have dante :3

You can take Sanguinary guard as troops with dante, obviously, but also because you can deepstrike the SG with only 1d6 of scatter with dante in the list. Therefore, more SG/DS units, the better his advantage is.

You only get 1 chapter banner per army, so if you only have 1 unit, take it.
+1 attack on a unit with nothing but power weapons is pretty good.

Toss in a priest, and you dish it out like nobodies business.
20 S5 power weapons, 5 re-rolls, then the attacks from the priest.

You don't necessarily need more sanguinary guard for the squad you have to be effective - multiple squads give you redundancy, which is helpful in a number of ways, but you can make your single squad more than effective enough for casual play. As the above poster mentioned, the more deep strikers you have the better, whether sanguinary guard or not, thanks to target saturation.

One role that your lone squad might be able to fill is that of a precision tank-busting missile. With Dante, the SG don't scatter at all, and unlike your normal Assault squads, there is no limit on the number of meltas they can take. In practice, 3 SG Infernus pistols plus Dante is more than enough to toast any tank you lay your sights on. Furthermore, Dante's precision deep strike helps you mitigate one of the SG's primary weaknesses (no Invulnerable save) by keeping them out of LOS of high-Strength, low-AP weaponry. And if they happen to survive after dropping down and taking out your opponent's most important tank ... well, you just happen to have a tough, mobile set of scoring power weapons floating around in your opponent's backfield. Can't go wrong there.

Don't use them like terminators. Their lack of invulnerable will leave them dead in the open. I'd only ever deep strike them.

If you're just going to use them as a deep striking, tank killer then I'd go with honourguard. They include a priest that can't be picked out as base and can take 4 meltaguns

Sang guard are 200 points base. I'm not sure how much their meltas cost but I'm assuming close to 10pts each.

Honour guard are 115 base. +50 for jump packs and then, what 10 pts or 5 per melta?

A little bit less than 200 points for just as much damage output

I bought a CC squad of termies and a land raider to go with this set, I just didn't see the point of MORE sang guard but then every post I see on them - if you don't have 500000 sang guard you're doin it wrong.

Was thinking of getting the sanguinor to go with these guys still haven't figure out if I can deep strike the sanguinor yet. but if I can I can see using the termies with the sanguinor and dante dropping in.

Honor guard with packs and melta come in at ~205 points.

IIRC, Sang Guard get melta-pistols for 5 pts.
Sang Guard also have 2-handed, master crafted power weapons, and 2+ armor.
Honorguard get the priest included.

If you just want to deep strike and melta something, go with landspeeder(s) with 2x multimelta. Cheaper (80 pts, 2 multimeltas) than either of the above with far greater range.

Personally, I'm going to gamble that pistols don't suck as much next edition and going all plasma on my Sang Guard.

What do you need to make an honor guard?
What else would you gear on the guard?
The friend I'm getting into the game with is playing imperial guard infantry heavy wtih some tanks and I'm trying to figure a list that gets me in the fastest way possible.

I modeled my honour guard just like regular jump marines but with some extra bling. Some purity seals, beaky heads and some heraldry. I put a jump pack on an old Apoth to make the priest.

Other than that just whatever weapon you're going to run with them.

IIRC I think if a land speeder deep strikes they can only fire one weapon, since they count as moving 12'' when they do. So one speeder is just 60pts.

Ive just never had much luck with the sang guard, I think they're good but I don't run Dante to make them Troops.

I run a pretty fun 2000pt Sang Guard list with Dante and from the games I've played it is pretty competitive. What really helps are Sanguinary Priests. The ability to split them off helps leave 2 slots open in your elites section, but if you are taking Dante that won't matter. If you are going up against guard I suggest a similar list to my own. Take Dante and somewhere around 3 squads of Sang Guard with a priest in each. Give Dante's squad the chapter banner and melta pistols. The other squads can honestly keep their special bolt guns or go plasma, because even their bolt guns are pretty awesome against simple infantry. Your going to want the rest of your list to probably be Vanguard Vets so you can assault straight out of deepstrike. This way you won't be caught out in the open by 100s of las shots by tying him up in combat. If you give them melta bombs they can also easily take out tanks as well. Hope that gives you some ideas!

I was going to run a sort of distraction build with 10 dc and a furioso on a storm raven 10 termies and a lib in a land raider mephy dante-sang guard and of course 2 rhinos with assault squads a sang priest in each and just let him decide what he wants to focus fire while everything else moves in on him. I have 2 baal preds, and I'm just learning to play for now and to see what works I also have a chaplain for the DC. I'm also looking into the sanguinor and adding in razorbacks and a 3rd ten man assault squad with sang priest.
For now though I'm building my list and trying to figure out the different ways of playing this list and I know that inital list I gave out is well over 2150 points and I'm still not even sure how good the DC is =/ so I'm learning and I may have to get a couple more sang guard if people overall think they're worth it. =D

was also going to give that DC a homing beacon to let the teleporting be far more effective. They're just so expensive in the way of points =[ - I'm also mostly going to be playing 2150 pt games so I don't know what build is the best I keep reading tons of different lists =/

Yeah, there are a lot of different ways to play with BA, which is very nice. I've heard mixed reviews about DC myself, but it l would consider trying out the Vanguard vets at least once instead of the DC and decide for yourself. It seems the only thing you are going to deepstrike is Dante's squad and usually you use him to pop a juicy tank because of his "does not scatter" rules. The problem with this is that once he jumps in with his men and is done with his job he is very vulnerable to return fire, which is the reasoning for vanguard vets. Also remember, he will most likely come in on turn 2 due to descent of angels so the rest of your army may be a turn behind him in their rhinos on the table and therefore unable to provide support. Granted armor saves of 2+ and FNP on Dante's men is nothing to scoff at he can shrug off a lot, just try not to get hit with a battelcannon or worse.

If you have only 2+ saves then all rocket launchers will be useless.

If you are deepstriking everything (and it sounds like you are) I would recomend outflanking assaultcannon predators so that you can shoot down transports withouth having to chase the to long. (A resreved dreadnought with autocannons also can help here.)

I'm looking at instead of the termies getting a couple more sanguinary guard? And the only purpose of the dc is what they use them for in the fluff =) I want a decent jump point for everyone else to use and then boom - everyone showed up XD I definitely love the idea of decent of angels. That just seems so scarey to me and so very blood angels =)
And you said you make the vanguard guys out of what again? I have 20 tac marines I'm not going to use but I was just gonna trade them for something else probably termies or more sanguinary guard XD
