I'm trying to decide which of the Lores of Battle Magic to pick for my Slann. I know that there's probably no "right" answer, but I wanted to post a thread to achieve two things. Firstly, I wanted to let you all have a look at what I think are the pros and cons of each Lore. Knowing that I'm correct in the pros and cons will go a long way to helping me make a choice that will help me have fun and win games. Secondly, I'd like to know your opinions, totally independent of the stuff I post below.

For context, I'm running one Slann with all spells alongside a Level 2 Skink Priest.

Anyway, here it goes. I haven't bothered to take any notes on those Lores I don't think offer anything to my army.

Fire

Fire has two different magic missile spells, giving me lots of options when it comes to channeling spells through my skink. It also has two close-combat augments, which will come in handy in a Saurus Warrior, Temple Guard, and Cold One Cavalry focused force. It also has a lot of cheap spells, which is neat when you're using one of the few Level Four wizards in the game. Fire seems like it would help a make a killy army even killier. The only negative I can see is that it doesn't add a lot of other neat tricks, just more killing.

Beasts

The Lore of Beasts is good at augmenting cavalry and troops for close combat. Like the Lore of Fire, it includes two magic missiles - good for channeling. The Transformation of Kadon seems like it would be good for turning my Slann - generally useless except for spellcasting - into an enormous badass monster, which will turn my Temple Guard into a sort of a death star. It's also worth noting that since my Slann is both my BSB and my General, making him a Large Target greatly expands the range of his morale-boosting aura. A neat trick, I think.

Light

Lots of cheap spells, two magic missile options, and spells that boost Weapon Skill, Initiative, and Movement - all of this seems like a good idea for the Lizardmen.

Life

On the one hand, Throne of Vines looks like an awesome spell for my Slann, who is going to spend his entire life sitting around and casting spells, anyway. Spells that enhance Toughness, add regeneration, and resurrect dead models are all great in an already hard-to-kill faction.

On the other hand, the Lore of Life includes no magic missiles, which reduces the utility of my Skink Priest.

Death

The Lore of Death has lots of cheap spells, which takes advantage of my Slann's high level. It also has spells that let me capitalize on my Slann's high Leadership score. It has some good close-range killiness, which is great for Lizardmen.

On the other hand, it only has one spell that makes my troops more powerful, and lizard-fist-to-face is definitely the focus of my army.

So, what do you think? Am I summing up the Lores correctly, in your opinion? Which Lore would you choose? Questions? Comments? Advice?

Thanks. I'll check that out. If some mod moves my thread I won't mind.

in my opinion, death spells and bane head are too good to pass. Remove the bsb, cast doom and darkness and start the rape. Then switch to the fire slann. Casting combat buffs for m4 saurus is too passive and random.

edit: oh, no reason to stop at 1 death slann, take 2 for funsies!!
