So I have built an army list that I enjoy using and have done pretty well with, the exception is there are no elite choices in the list. My questoin is, is this tactically sound on a tournament level. Will I be punished at larger tournaments for not taking an elite choice? I have troops, FA, HQ, and HS, but I'm just can't find anything in the points limits or that i've had a lot of luck with in the Elites section.

Elites usually means CC units. If you have the firepower or the ability to avoid CC, there is no need for elites. Guessing now but Eldar, DE, and to a lesser degree marines can all do it without elites. It is a style choice and it will work.

What army did you take? We can't tell you if it's good, bad or anything without knowing which army. Near as I can tell from your title, it's BT-and yes, you can get away with no Elites in that army, going with hordes, speeders, LRCs, etc.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

It's actually a GK purifier list with interceptors. I have had no luck with the vindicare, and I can't see using 3 KP's for 3 plasma cannons and paladins are too expensive in the list. But as it is I have this

Crowe

4x 5 purifiers, 2 PC, 2 halberds, hammer, psyback, searchlights

5 GKSS, psycannon

8 interceptors, hammer, PBA

3x Psydread

I'm 147 pts short of 1850 and trying to figure out how to finish it out. I'd really like to make the GKSS 10 strong with PBA and another psycannon so they can split on DS.

Your choice is the interceptors as opposed to any elite choice. Otherwise your list is pretty golden and standard. So the only thought is take the points spent on the interceptors and think about how you could better spend the points. Personnally, I think GK elites are pretty lame when you have terminators as troop choices. Why should I select a high-priced unit when I can have nearly the same staying power AND the ability to control objectives.

My GK have one elite - a venerable dread and that is just so I can play one "fluffy" dread knight in the list.

Yea, I know the interceptors aren't choice A, but I enjoy using them. Plus it makes the list not so bland and alot of people seem to make them a high priority target

I can't argue with mobility. That is useful and doubly so in any marine list. I think your choice to go to 10 strong GKSS is good. The one thing I worry about with GK is the lack of troop choice wounds 30 seems adequate.

Technically you do have Elites, the Purifiers, they just aren't Elites in this list because of Crowe. I really don't see any issue with your list. Personally I would say a Vindicare would fit that spare 147 you have perfectly and I love the unit, but you have said that you haven't had much luck with them. Upgrading the GKSS to have another 5 models, psycannon and psybolt ammo would be a good addition, it will allow you to combat squad them if you need to hold objectives or to simply be a large squad with extremely dangerous anti-infantry shooting.

Depends on army and list.

SM, Eldar, Tau all rely heavily on elites (crisis, termies, Fire)

I added 5 GKSS, psycannon, hammer, and PBA to the original squad and MC the interceptors hammer. I got to thinking about the tactical options like combat squaring the GKSS upon deep strike and the options it provides are just to good to pass up. Thanks for the C&C.

IG can kick ass with just troops and Heavy Support.
Other nations aren't so fortunate.

You will probably take rambo, and maybe the psykers, though if you were trying ramp it up for a tournament.

'nids are probably the most reliant on the elite.

Then deathwing, ravenwing, dualwing, biker marines, razorbackspam, Loganwing can do without elite choices as a selection of off the peg lists.
