Well, my gaming-group veered off course, and we're instead gearing up towards inq28.
here's a WiP of Brother-sergeant Ioannes Allectus of the Ultramarines.

Well, it's always good to see more modellers moving towards INQ28! I hope you find it a rewarding part of your hobby experience.

Great work true-scaling the Space Marine, though I wouldn't want to face him on the battlefield! What else have you got planned?

It seems more action/rpg oriented which suits our group better, so here's hoping

casca, in his many incarnations is being redone to remove.. all the pudgy, playdoughy gs i did a year back. basically your usual heavy support guy with a heavy bolter, i'll be adding some ornaments to his heavy bolter and a box mag instead of ammobelt. (i think i'll give him a heresy-era set of legs too, havent decided on that yet, need to figure out who he is first)

I'm also scratchbuilding an inquisitor for the retinue (yes, really) in powerarmour, havent found a name for him yet, but he'll definetly be sporting a boxy scibor-esque powerfist on his right arm and a combibolter of some sort. also, need to flesh him out fluffwise to know in which direction the sketches and whole image will go. (i try to sketch it out roughly first)
Sidenote, although i've finished his legs more or less, i'm quite not content, there's something about the angle of the lower leg that's off. need to iron that one a bit more.

Great sculpting and plasticard skills. He's going to be a monster on the battlefield. I can't wait to see the inquisitor done if he's going to be as cool as this guy!

oooo the Marine looks good. The shield is great. As Mol said I'd hate having to face him with anything other than another marine....or perhaps an Ork Nob.

Now that I know what inq28 (quick Google search never hurt anyone) my last post sounds a bit silly.

Sculpting my chapter serf, i've come to realise something. there's no chance GW are sculpting anatomy. it just doesnt.. no.

Anatomy sculpting is hard. i've begun to sculpt mainly as i do in 3d, one side at a time, now, its the front. but its still hard as hell on the truescale 28mm level. so there's no way they're doing it, or rather, doing it correctly, i'm myself taking a few shortcuts w. musculature as shown here:



@Molotov, i've been reading through the rulebook and you're right. a marine is a BEAST on the playing field of INQ. so i've begun to reimagine and rethink the "warband" and it'll definetly consist of ultramar forces, but not the typical ones.
warband-wise i've come up with:

Kevor - magos biologis admech, not your typical admech, swivel blade as forearm, powerfist w. mechadendrites pouring out of it, not the typical admech robe but rather a cowl and biomech wings draped around him. upper torso is the imperial eagle spread out very edgy and obtuse, on top of which is a voxcaster in the form of the gen 1 cylon chest -- or something much like it -- along with a very grimdark bdsm facemask.

Secutor Vesper Minion, the teams non-permissive enviroment specialist, former astartes neophyte but due to various genetic mishaps (one of which is his bulky size and length, yes even for an astartes) nothing but a chapter serf, sent to consult on matters martial. will be sporting the latest in carapace armor, a very custom bolt pistol/autogun based on a flintlock weapon w. magazine and blade attached under muzzle. other than that, well, pure 100% sculpt of mini, armor, drop pouch, gun and slingbag for explosives and other lethal tools of the trade.

Zoë Metella, retired ultramar naval officer, 100% looks, 100% lethality, havent quite gotten down to sketching her out yet.

If you are focusing on Ultramarines, I believe they have a PDF force as well, which could give you some interesting looking guardsmen.

That marine is great an interesting exciting Ultramarine that works as one. How did you do the feathers on the shield?

@Sageheart, naturally. I've envisioned their PDF as something between roman centurions, scottish clansmen and gladiators. with a modus operandi similar to the Sa/b/S of modern day, and some manner of red cell tactics.
The current lad i'm working on, Vesper, will be sporting something of a long kilt divised in two (as those skirts worn by off-duty samurai) in some manner of scottish pattern. (i imagine every noble house of macragge has some manner of pattern on cloth etc etc) along with bodyarmor for the torso, which i imagine for him as something akin to a RRV with frontplates.
also, he's getting more details, but my burnpot for hardening GS isnt hardening the clay fast enough to my taste so its taking a bit longer to complete him.

As i've made a new friend here on dakka, also started at a point of some form of a comission for a knight titan (i've comissioned it not vice versa) i've also taken a bit of a timeout sketching that out detailwise.
Dont worry, its going to be smurf themed as well, lots of iconography relating to macragge (i.e roman stuff) it'll also feature "ESPANDORII VICTRIX" on one of the legs as well as a lion sculpt by yours truly..

Vesper has had some ironing out as well, he's going to be wearing bodyarmor, but none like you've seen on a gw figure earlier.
This together with a roman era gladiator shoulderpad on the left shoulder, segmented in three layers with a roaring lion skull half in half on the top shoulderguard.

Sorry for not updating but i got sidetracked with a new tablet that i'm using to sketch on as well as a knight titan thing, and oh, i'm scratchbuilding a custom flyer, not entirely grimdark but definetly something else.

the way i envision the flyer is as a Ultramar force recon-ish long range transport, with living quarters, quick deployment, and two sidemounted sponson hurricane bolter rigs.
wings? pah, vtol and rule-of-cool grav/turbine propulsion!

Causality, the design of systematic tipping points, a way to embrace cultures and extend the imperial reach.

An unimpressive selection of rabble, hardy as any guardsmen regiment. the Fifth Regiment of the Équillibre PDF were putting on a charade of a parade. Magos Biologis Kevor stood alongside his partner, former naval officer Zoë Metella. the launchpad was stacked with crates and machinery, landing the aquila had been a job unto itself for once. The show of force played out by the PDF.
The spaceport of Équillibre was the same rustic gothic architecture as all other imperial spaceports, the vessels around them unloading and buzzing with activity.
The previously tight formation of PDF guardsmen parted in front of one of the antique skull ornamented archways, brushing slight above their heads were cherubs trumpetting the pompous arrival of the system administratum officials.

Governor Leonine Hadar entered the platform with the usual dramatic bravado of his office, carried aloft by four servitors, himself seated on a golden palanquin amongst pillows and other finery. Kevor had never understood the necessity for the dramatis himself, but here they were, on the outskirts of the eastern fringe to broker a trade agreement. Or at least that's the official story.

Days before, Vesper had been inserted covertly via the rogue trader AurumBellis, his mission to investigate the manifestation rumours of moral crimes.
They had come across a vessel originating from the system floating adrift on the outskirts of Ultramar, ruined by an infestation of the archenemy.

"Good tidings and Greetings Magos, I understood you were three?" the words from Hadar rang hollow to Kevor, he never had understood the need for unnecessary dialogue.

"Lord Hadar, we are merely here to facilitate the agritrade agreement, Vesper due to his Martial nature was left on our Vessel in high orbit." if Kevor had been able to, he would be baring his teeth like a hungry wolf something was amiss.
Hadar Gestured to the archway, insinuating them to follow.
"pompous entrance, no respect shown and a cadre of PDF, was this a cockfight or a welcome?" the thought passed Zoë idly.
Kevor straighted his posture, the chrome segments making up his body gleaming in the artificial light and reflecting off of his red mechanical wings that were folding over and around him as he made after the Governor.
Zoë smirking, brushed her shoulder with her hand, following through with doubletapping the tip of her indexfinger to the side of the tallarn scarf draped around her neck.

zig-zagging through the alley, popwalling the cul-de-sac wall, Vesper landed in a speed vault barrelroll and slapped home a new clip into his gunblade.
He threw a glance behind him to see if his pursuers were still on his tail end. "Theoretical ruinous powers, possible manifestation of the arch enemy, they said. Theoretical!?" he thought as he surveyed the street below him.
the voxbead in his ear squelched two times, Zoë and Kevor had made contact with the administratum.

taking in his surrounding he started for the closest rooftop as he heard the distant buzzing of angels, "by the 'cragge, they deployed drones." he vaulted across the expanse between the buildings and wallpassed down to the alley below. He needed to lose himself in the streets, tugging his tunic over his ornate manica, a roaring lion of a shoulderguard and a segmented metal armguard would draw unneeded attention to him, tall as he is he needed no more to assert himself from others.
The street was full of life, streetvendors and neon signs catering to the dregs, hive gangbangers with their electoos chilling out beside a local pub.
"Perfect" he thought to himself smirking.
he shouldered his way past the dregs as he went for the grungy entrance to the pub, inside littered with guardsmen, dregs, gangers and others. He went into the darkest recess of the pub and found a table for himself.

touching his ear, activating the vox "This is Samnite, Practical: The black sun has set." he subvocalised.

Vesper Minion, a chapter serf of the Ultramarines, due to his genotype infallabilities had been rendered unable to fulfill his role as a legionaire. Standing taller than two men, fitting three between his shoulders. A fully bionic leg, unique from the forges of Konor, awarded for bravery against the tyranid swarm. he's the epitome of his legionaire brothers, but unlike them, lacking in inner physiology.


time, was not on his side.

he started rationalising the theoreticals, the stratagems to employ. it was time to unfuck this situation, they had went in on a rumour, as it turns out, it wasnt.
activating the vox he subvocalised again "Aurum, Samnite. Transmit priority Espandor: SITREP PRACTICAL. END." he received a tripple squelch in reply, message acknowledged.

The entrance half of the building exploded in shards of wood and metal, Vesper had barely released the PTT switch of the vox. a flash of a thought graced his mind "Had they traced his vox?"
Vesper flipped over the table and pulled the gunblade from the holster on his chest.

"Astartes, Desist and throw out your Weapons!" a vox boomed from outside, he was trying to see through the smoke and haze when he saw the chimera outside, mounted up top was an autocannon turret, floating in the air above were two hunterkiller drones with unknown arnament. it'd make short work of him he realised. and yet he chuckled "Do they not realise, my body is a weapon, able as any blade or gun.."

He needed to exfiltrate as best he could, he popped two boltrounds through the wall at the back, it exploded outward as he dove through it manica first and rolled. quickly on his feet he scanned for a place to run.

"Florentine, Samnite exfiltrating and going silent, voxduct is compromised." Zoë and Kevor looked at eachother, as the PDF guardsmen in the governors office raised their ornate autoguns at them.
The governor turned around, a twisted, contorted, sickly grin from ear to ear adorning his face. "You see Magos, The darkness, is full of whispers..."

So. I actually sold the big guy. Am also in the process of rethinking the warband. Vesper is being unpacked and worked upon as soon as this heals.
