The Blitzer looks pretty cool, and the Bomber is nearly identical to the metal version, I think. The Mauler I'm not a huge fan of... but I have these guys in metal, anyway and a headswap might help. Now we just need to glimpse the character upgrade kit for Rok

The downside of people fielding a lot of these plastic kits without modifying them at all is they'll all be leaning slightly forward and to the side... but it will definitely make trolls cheaper to start, and since they're plastic making them lean another way shouldn't be hard.

Wow you're right! I cannot tell too many differences with the bomber. The others are a bit more obvious.

Damn... Those trolls must be triplets in the fluff for those models to make any sense. Anyone know if the metal models will be discontinued after this is released? Because I need a blitzer and there is no way I'm fielding that there mess..

And glad I own a mauler that was born before each and every troll got hooked on steroids for your hands....

Whyle i dont play WMH, i can see a lot of dark eldar potential in those plastics, i think i found some good grotesques for future conversions...

I think they'd be too huge for grotesques. Like I said, I have the metals and prefer the Mauler in that (although, Gorlack, they All have huge hands ). The Blitzer I like both of, but lean towards the metal version only because it's more unique compared to its' fellows. I think this Blitzer's ace, though!

I like the direction they are going with these...anything to keep me from having to pin every model in a Trolls army.

That being said I think the hair (if you can call it that) is what hurts the Mauler, the other two are fine.

It will be interesting to see what they do with the character upgrades for hoards as unlike some character jacks there are noticeable differences on each model.

I believe I read somewhere on PP's forum that they might be discontinuing the metal models in February 2012 but take that with a grain of salt. I'll try and find the post for you. As for being triplets well they are the same breed of troll pretty much just given different equipment in the fluff aren't they? So worse than triplets it's the same damn guy in each model . I actually like all three, I think the complaining comes from the fact that the metal dire troll mauler is just a fantastic sculpt to begin with.

I prefer the new Blitzer, am ambivalent towards the Bomber, and do NOT like the Mauler. It's legs are too stumpy, and the facial expression is one of teenage angst rather than a 2 ton monster coming to rip your arms out of the sockets and beat you with them until your flesh and bones are the consistency of a nice pate which it can then consumer with relish.

Not bad, not great but not a bad conversion from metal to plastic. The different poses, to me, would encourage me to field more then one...especially the Mauler.

Almost reconsidering Trolls for my first faction.

As a Merc. player I feel kind of jealous though. The change over from metal to plastic went really well for these Dire Trolls and I would be happy purchasing either metal or plastic. But I just don't feel the same for our first plastic 'jacks.

How much greenstuff is required to get your model to look like the ones in the promotional pics?

Not much AFAIK... if you're good with it . The liquid greenstuff is perfect for it, though... I'm about to use it building my metal bomber.

For anyone interested and those who love the original Mauler here is a little back story on it from my boyfriend:

http://monster-zer0.blogspot.com/2010/05/so-i-thought-that-i-would-give-little.html

He also sculpted the new kits but was not able to design them himself like the original Mauler and the Extreme Mauler.

I believe I've seen him post his back story about the Extreme sculpt, too. Cool that he's done all of them

It's hard to hit the nail on the head for all the variants of the new kits since they need to work together. Since his new Blitzer and Bomber variants look so good, I can forgive the Mauler... particularly since he did both of the other versions of it (old metal and Extreme) which are excellent and which I have both of

I dig the plastic kits. Even though I have no use for them, I can see myself buying three so that I can build one of each. I don't mind the Mauler so much. As long as I dont have to fill a ton of gaps like the previous one, I'm a happy camper.

EDIT:

Also, I'm excited that It looks like I can use whatever head I want for the different models. Hooray!

Gotta say, the trolls are about the most "meh" part of the whole privateer press line. I agree about the overlarge hands.

The Mauler doesn't quite do it for me (especially compared to the beautiful metal version) but the other 2 look great.

Also, I'm totally with Kurgash, let's see them elephants already!

I normally hate it when people say this... But that Blitzer just looks very Orkish to me, mostly in the face. The Bomber and the Mauler don't have that problem, though the Mauler face is just bad I think, with the upper lip curling too far up.

Haha this is why I LIKE the Trollbloods

I've been looking at the Mauler again. I think that the position of the hands on the first Mauler as well as it's gaping maw really set it apart, and gave it a ferocious look that the newer one is lacking. I'm trying to be constructive

I think you're right, and as was mentioned a few times above, the issue is that the original Mauler sculpt was so classic/awesome, it's hard to match. That and the Extreme variant! Really, with all those options (and the metal mauler is the cheapest cost-wise of the dire trolls, so people can easily get it if they like it better) it's not a big deal that it's the weakest of the 3 variants.

The problem I'd have with fielding these is that they're all leaning the same way! Nothing can be done about that for the kit, but it would definitely need to be converted to vary that up a bit.

But this is academic for me as I have the metals... the real question someone brought up on the PP forums is, can the metal Bomber body be used to make a full-metal Rok!? Seems like a possibility! But we'll see once this kit is actually out if it breaks apart the same as the metal version, or not.

I'm guessing this has to be because the Skorne Titans are easily the most complicated of all the Hordes heavy kits. Lots of pieces, some rather large gaps to fix, etc. I hope they're nice; even though I don't play Skorne, I just love the Titans.

Actually it kind of is, because as soon as the plastic versions get released, the metal ones will be discontinued.

Buy now?

You're right, of course, I'm just saying if people don't like the Mauler, there's time to get the metals... and the Mauler is a really good price (due to its' size, I guess).

Actually the Mauller is so cheap compared to the other Dire Trolls due to PP not updating the price of its older metal models to the actual cost of the newest ones.

I guess I'm just concerned for all the future Troll players not geting those awesome older Mauler sculpts...

Yeah, I'm happy I have 2 of the Metal Maulers. I might have to get that new Blitzer though, and that would make 3. Can you imagine the pain train of 3 Blitzers...of course I wouldn't have any versatility, but it could still be fun

Update on classic model availability here straight from one of the staff: http://privateerpressforums.com/showthread.php?90774-What-is-PP-s-Official-Classic-Models-Policy&p=1217925&viewfull=1#post1217925

Short story: Metal models will be moved to online only and will continue to be produced until the molds wear out. You have plenty of time to get your metal maulers.
