I've tried 3 different ways, including the horrid looking gw snow and they all turned out looking garbage.

What are some easy ways to make somewhat realistic looking snow?

I found this recently and its pretty cool I haven't seen any other product that looks as wet. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zJOjBDC5b4k&list=UUHbWLQSXn0BwByNW-DWBLlA&index=8&feature=plcp

I also unfortunately bought GW snow and it was well... not good.

I know! I ended up getting the broken glass set, bag of skulls, hollow bullets and a display stand haha. Really great stuff on there

I use Woodland Scenics Soft Flake Snow. Great stuff and very inexpensive. There are a couple of methods I use:

1. Simple - Mix up some PVA glue and water, 1:1 ratio. Brush on base. Dip base into snow. Repeat until the snow is high enough for your liking. On my Wolves I paint the model first, base last and apply some glue onto the model's feet so he looks like he's standing in the snow.

2. Advanced - Mix some of the snow into the water/glue mix until it forms a paste. Brush onto base to create drifts. Once dry, brush on more of the thinned glue and dip into snow to get a fluffy look.

I also found this link from GW that gives several snow basing ideas with a brief tutorial on each.

Baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) does the trick, for me. Varying the application method and ratios (PVA vs. gloss varnish vs. CA, sprinkled on top vs/ mixed into a paste vs. a combination, coating with varnish vs. leaving bare, adding white paint, etc.) allows a pretty wide range of convincing effects.

Crushed glass is supposedly the pinnacle, but I'd argue that it's only worthwhile for display pieces/dioramas.

That's exactly what I'm using it for. My golden demon entry is a space wolf terminator so I need the best snow possible

I second baking soda, especially if you want that deep drift look.

Do this but also tease with tweezers/toothpick.

As much as I like secretweapon and their products, I am not a fan of the crushed glass thing, that could cause someserious damage to your lungs!

I use the woodland scenic stuff, and mix a little future in to give a it a sheen.

THis is the most recent model I have done using snow, I think the woodland scenic stuff works just fine.

Dude... getting my wolves painted, basing is next. You just gave me the source of my basing materials.

And I'm not scared of the whole "bad for you" thing...I love me some hazardous materials....

Why is it that only those who have never fought in a battle are so eager to be in one?
