Well, what I've noticed is that if I spell something wrong or in a British spelling it will come up with a red zigzag under the word and suggest other spellings.
Is this part of the actual programming or is my computer acting strangely?

I don't think Dakka has it's own spellchecker... If you're using firefox, try downloading a new dictionary (right-click a text box, languages, add dictionary) - you can get an english/UK one.
