10 Canoptek Scarab Swarms

Warrior mobs do four things, they divert the enemy's fire, they glance and shoot things to death, they don't die, and they annoy the f*** out of the enemy. Your warriors are survivable, and have good shooting abilities. Seeing as gauss is rapid fire, you want to get close, but warriors suck in CC and will get recked when charged. So, give your lords mindshackle scarabs and a close combat weapon. One very sucky thing about warriors is that they are slow, so they cannot annoy the enemy that much, and the scarabs can be taken out- which would basically defeat the purpose of your warriors. So, give them a veil.

All of the anti-tank weaponry in the enemy's army will be pointed at the monoliths, so take out a warrior mob, and add in one more monolith, and a 5-man warrior squad to grab late game backfield objectives.

Lastly, you are lacking vehicle suppression for when you play that all search-light guard army, so take heavy destroyers, annihilation barges, or doom scythes.

Thanks for the advice! My plan for this army was to keep the monolith in reserve. First turn, try to move up with the unit containing Imotekh and fire at a vehicle (with relentless given to squad) while trying to remain in cover. Fire with the other necrons at other vehicles hoping to glance and immobilize the vehicles giving auto-hits to the scarab swarms. In a capture point game, the monolith's purpose is to deep strike in, suck in the Imotekh unit and have them fire, as well as hopefully assault and contest. The monolith is meant to be my transport for far away capture points (as well as give me some alright pie plates). I am new to necrons, is this strategy not that sound? Thanks again.

Sorry to somewhat bump this again, but I am working on buying up all the necessary things and was looking for a bit more advice. I currently have 24 warriors and 8 scarab swarms. I know people are probably tired of reading necron lists, but nevertheless, does this army stand a chance? How flawed is my strategy? I am not looking for a really competitive list (or else I would just play GK razor henchmen spam). I wanted to make a majorly shooty army due to the fact my main army is 10 paladins in transports with Draigo and a Libby (a heavy assault list that I was hoping to make a list that would be nearly opposite). Any advice is greatly appreciated.

I am also working on a list and i got alot of advice from dakkadakka you could use

Annihilation barges are a necrons best friend
- you get an overlord on foot and a annihilation barge/command barge (easily swappable between the two) for only 33US$
- you get more speed and shooting power from the Annihilation barges
- you get 2 of them at 180 points (cheaper then a monolith)
- they can easily harrass any 11 armour vehicles (rhinos, razorbacks, trukks, etc..) someone said they average slightly higher then 1 pen and 1 glance a shooting phase
- the twin-linked tesla destructors will rip through horde armies

Also I would get rid of the lords and get Harbringers of destruction with eldritch lances and one with a solar pulse
this gives you more antitank shots and the solar pulse can help you get one more enemy turn of night fighting

Thats all I can think of for a more footslogging army, but i'd read around the forums for more information on necron tactics, thats where I found alot of mine

just 1 in the legion

One suggestion I'd make is to swap out one of those Warrior Squads with a 10xImmortal squad with an Orb Lord with Scythe & Scarabs (260pts). That unit can walk up the field and it's average of 10 S5 hits per shooting phase is really destructive.

The 20 strong Warrior Unit really need a Phaeron so it can move and shoot.

Remember, with the Monolith, if you can't place any models within two inches of the door, they die. It's tough getting the 20+1 unit of warriors through the door.

Monoliths work good in pairs, but I think I'd recommend replacing the 1 Monolith with 2 Annihilation Barges. You'll find the Barges ability to wreck havoc on both troops and light transports (Rhino's, Razorbacks, Trukks, Raiders) to be invaluable. (An average of 5 S7 hits with the TL Tesla, you'll see between 3-8 hits usually, big standard deviation due to the tesla rule).

Imotek is gimmicky, I think you'll find in some games he's amazing, in others, he's expensive and doesn't perform to his point cost.

Those 3 units of Scarabs are going to make people cry. I take one unit of 10 Scarabs and I've only had one match where they didn't make up their points cost.
