Basicly, what the title says, what should i put in a newbie space marine epic force?

i would start with a formation of terminators, 4-6 stands with a character. teleporting terminators in E:A are very powerful, especially if you win the initative roll.

besides that land raiders are solid at everything and have some of the best armor in the game for non DC vehicles. in my demo force i have a bit of everything.

Terminators are usually really good options. Number two is Thunderhawk with some assaulty forces in it (I use two with Terminators in one and Devs + Dreads in other). Very common choice is lone Warhounds as well, but I usually don't take them. I like to use the Land Speeders as well as they allow easy double punch with Thawks. Eg. double and fire with Speeders at target (they are fast so can reach nicely to enemy) then retain and air assault with Thawk and get another shot from Speeders. And once you start using aircraft, go with Thunderbolts. They are really good for marines.

From other ground forces, I like Annihilator Predators as they do pack a nice punch. However they are vulnerable so keep them clear of enemy before attacking. Tacticals are usually taken to keep Supreme somewhere safeish.

well i might grab the pack of 5 teminator stands, a thunderhawk, 3 land raiders, some characters, 3 dreadnoughts ans 2 warhound titans

Assault Marines deploying from a Thunderhawk are pretty good, too.

Oh one more addition. If you are using ground infantry (Devs and Tacs), be sure to get some lascannon Razorbacks. They add firepower cheaply. Hvy Bolter ones suit Scouts nicely, but are generally considered worse (due to shorter range and larger amount AP firepowe on infantry).

In my opinion, Land raiders are expensives in a 3000 point match, put a Librarian in a devastator unit, Whirlwind are useless against Imperial Guard.
I like the Reaver Titan.
Basically use your initiative and your unit to stay close to the enemy before he starts shooting you.

lol my Chaos force would eat that group alive, stick with rhino and marines for fast movement, keep termies in thunderhawk, dreads are nice if facing non marines, titans work well against a tough foe. Whirlwinds are great for support but lack close combat, a bike squadron rules for fast attack. Librarians work best if they are with marines or termies. choose your lists to match your enemy...

I would have to say Speeders are one of the best units in epic for marines. They can be used to garrison as they all have scout. That is big for marines. The have a bigger zone of control so can pin enemy units possibly. Not to mention they have Macro weapons. Assaulting with them you can pop up and the enemy can only use FF to hit them. And realativly cheap for what they do. You do have to protect them though.

I also like Devs squads as well. But all the marine stuff is pretty good. You have ot plan your moves though. They can get overwhelmed fast. Plan on geting the int with them. If not you might be hurting.

I do like Terminators Tporting in. Its really nice when you add a supreme commander to one squad. You can have multiple squads assault at the same time with the Supreme commander rule. Its pretty expensive though.

Assaullt Marines are awesome if you can charge a unit with some devs in FF range. Then you have all attacks with a 3+ CC and 3+ FF. Very awesome indeed.
