...And I am feeling pretty discouraged. It has been a while since I checked it (about 6 months), but I was really surprised to see that my Tau battlesuits only have 2.5 for paintjob. Really? Does that seem low to anyone, or do I just suck at painting?

Here is the one in question:

I think it's the marks on the white painted parts of the model. It really draws your eye to those parts, meaning you'll miss the weathering you've done to the other parts of the model. I'm still not even sure what I'm supposed to be seeing with the red/brown areas on the white?

The sloppy red markings and osl(?) ruin what is a pretty decent paintjob: some good chipping/weatering effects and nice subtle highlights on the chest carapace..

The red is Sept markings and the brown bits are supposed to be battle damage. I guess it does look bad, now that I think about it.

I did overlook my Piranha, which out of 11 votes got a 7.5 for paintjob, which is not bad. It must be because I abandoned the old style of paint chipping.

The battle suit is at least a 6 for me, but I must admit that the OSL is pretty shabby.

I guarantee you that I'm not really as smart as the test says:

See, I really like the Piranha. The markings aren't overdone and the lines just look straighter. There's just too much going on with the suit.

For me its that there doesn't seem to be any blending in the colours, white is hard to get right anyway so don't be disheartened.

I think that if you redo the white and use a mechanical pencil or Micro marker to plan out the markings first then use a REALLY pointy brush and a light hand this model will look a lot better.

Personally I don't do osl as I'm crap at it, well done for having a go.

It's best not to worry about the score actually. Today as I was voting I saw at least two images that I'd class as a 5/10, not bad, but clearly had 10/10 votes in the comments.

Looking at your OP I'd give it a 5/10, keeping in mind that with my voting scale 4/10 is table top, 5/10 is above average table top then it goes up from there. If the lens was done it'd bump it up to 6/10 easy.

Personally I find the gallery harder to browse through now :-( which stops me from voting, as i need to just look at this weeks highest etc... where before i would just broswe all the lates images from when i came last time and vote on any that caught my eye! I may be missing something with it, but that's right isn't it? and if i had seen your tau I probably would have voted as i like the Pirhana, it's very nicely done, and a wee bit neater than the battlesuit :-) i'll jump on your gallery and have a proper look around in a minute!

I've found that just using view a random image works out well now.

As was mentioned, the first mini was just too busy.

You are really good at grey, but need to work on your white. It is one of the harder colors to work with. You need to chose a 'shade' of white. The big ones are blue/white (cold), parchment/white (warm), and grey/white. Base your white areas in whichever shade you want to go with, and highlight up to white from there. Leave the corners and crevices some shade of that color.
