It may not seem worth a thread to some of you, but to me it is. I haven't actually found it yet but she has been missing for the last two days, it has been hot , she is usually seen every day and she is rather old...
I first got her back at the age of ten. She was a stray and deaf, already fully grown we adopted her as she seemed like a decent cat. Twelve years later she has outlived nearly all of her offspring (we gave one of the kittens to a friend (the only one still living, though with a tumor in her throat), which continued out to their friends until my cat was a great great grandmother) and has lasted a fairly long amount of time for a cat. Being deaf she had to be taught hand signs in order to be called and funnily enough the gesture for money was the one to call her.
She was estimated by a vet to be about 4 years old when we got her, we never knew which month she was born in though she is or was about 16-17.
So to bring this thread to a more lighter note, what are/were some of your favorite pets?
I've found that it never hurts less, but it gets easier to deal with. Every time, I just remind myself that I gave that pet a really bitching life. It lived out its days in safety and comfort, with love and attention. Everything it could have wanted or needed. Had no regrets.
And then I get teary eyed and start it over again.
Hell, writing this is making me misty eyed.
My favorite pet wasn't mine or my family's, but my uncle's. Ex-police dog German Shepard who had taken a bullet for someone and was ready and willing to do it again. Loved almost everybody, but went full-on Papa Wolf around children. You made a sudden move around a kid and he would flatten you.
Fething loved that dog.
There are some who walk until their legs fail them and they fall to the ground. I find that respectable.
Then there are those who drag themselves further. I find that admirable.
Sorry about ya cat, I hope you find her alive and kicking. Shes a nice looking beastie too and to be 16 or 17 i imagine shes had a pretty good run.
I worry about my cat too at night when he sneaks out a window or a door carelessly left open. I live near a creek so we quite often find browns and tiger snakes roaming about and the worry of him getting hit by a car is always there too. Hes a feisty little bugger, controls half the bloody neighbour hood.
Please don't attach non wargaming images to dakka. You'll need to use photobucket/similar if you wish to include such images.
Thanks

Sorry to hear about your cat. The first cat to regard me as something other than a scratching post was one that some of my neighbors abandoned when they moved. He just climbed up the alley and walked up to me and decided I was his person. He was so big when we first met that I thought he was fully grown, but then he nearly doubled in size. I named him Ash because of his grey fur, but he was actually solid as a rock. He passed away at the age of 16, after taking a downturn that strongly resembled a stroke, right down to the sagging of one side of his face and dragging leg. His favorite thing was catching the irritatingly aggressive crows that once terrorized my neighborhood. Once he brought one in and dropped in on my 80 year old aunt's lap! Fortunately, she grew up in the country and was more amused than shocked, since it seems farm cats do that sort of thing pretty often. I recommend you get another cat as soon as you get over your loss. Trust me, pets make a lot of the trials of life a little more bearable. And take pictures. I only had one picture of Ash, and I lost it years ago.
Sorry to hear that, sounds like your cat has had a great life though. My folks had a cat that lived to be 21!! We had that cat from when I was about 6 or 7, she was a white albino and lived mostly in the house. Any cat to make it into or past its teen years is pretty old. Hope she shows up soon, if not I hope you find comfort in knowing she had a good life.

Hey sorry about your cat, losing pets that rock is always hard. My mom ran over the first family cat I can remember an we had to put her down. I'm not sure if the vet is used to seeing a 21 year old man cry but that's what I did. Just remember the good times and carry on, hopefully with another pet you like.
I think most of us here are pet lovers, so you will find a lot of sympathy from us. I am very sorry to hear about your cat. I know how you feel, I lost two cats this year which my wife and I had for 12 years. One died of a stroke and the other had kidney failure.
@The Foot: I am sure the vet is used to seeing 21 year olds cry. They probably see it daily.

Yea, I hate dogs, but am definitely a cat person. Hope you find your cat, living or dead, just for that piece of mind. When I was a kid we had a cat that was deaf, and he was easily one of the coolest most interesting cats my family has ever owned.
I hope you find your cat safe and well. If not, then you have my deepest sympathy.
We almost lost our dog earlier this week. He's a Black Lab-Alsatian cross and the nicest dog you could ever wish for. He took a fit when I was away at a friend's party, and the family had taken him to the vets to get him put down. Fortunately the vet had seen something like it before, and told us to give him some medication and wait 24 hours to see if he improved. Thankfully he responded well to it and is right as reign again, but I was really worried about him for a while.
Losing a pet isn't just losing an animal, you lose a member of your family and a great friend too.
Again, I hope you find her safe and well.

My cat died at the age of 22 (it's age. I was 26). I'd had it since it was about a month old. It was called "cat". (It answered to it, and always came when called. It worked).
Haven't had one since. I'm 43.
It's ok, though. I have a wife now, so I don't need a pet. However, the wife wants to get another cat - so as soon as the place is able to have one (still unpacking crap) it's going to happen.
We did have someone's pet dwarf rabbit in our yard yesterday, though (the back fence is falling over and the landlord of that property is unwilling to go halves in a new one or allowing a replacement, so cats and other animals get in). The rabbit was probably not such a good idea - as there is a rather hyper greyhound that lives next door to us - and I know what they can do to a bunny.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.
That is not dead which can eternal lie ...
... and yet, with strange aeons, even death may die.

Probably won't get another cat, but still wait a little before getting a new pet.
Thanks everyone.
I'm sorry for your loss.
You might consider a Flemish Giant for your next pet if you want a cuddle animal like a cat but with more controllability...and an herbivore.

I am sorry to hear your cat is either dead or gone missing. That is a rough situation.
A friend of mine has had not cat on 2 seperate occassions dissappear for about 2 weeks at a stretch. Each time he came back rather thin, tired, and with a few scars.
Some cats if they get into a bad tangle out there, crawl into the nearest hole to lick thier wounds and recover, apparently sometimes it takes awhile.
Let us know what happens.
Automatically Appended Next Post: On the lighter note you requested. I currently have a calico cat that I have had off and on her lifetime of 14 years I think. I lose track of years. she was born to another cat of mine upon a housemates laundry pile on the 4th of July.
I also once upon a time ago as a teenager had a small kitten for about a week. I was at a camp, and one day while we were out canoing, I barely heard and spotted this small black cat, mewwing and caught in some blackberry brambles on the side of the stream. I managed to free him, he was torn up pretty badly, smelled of skunk, and I am guessing in that fight or another has lost most of his tail which was sstill pretty fresh. I got him back to camp, but was no good to keep him in the teepee, so go lodge to put him up, and we cleaned, fed, and tended to him the best we could for the week at which time he died. Poor thing had been through so much, at least he had a really good week of affection and fresh fish.
Now I gotta cry.
Automatically Appended Next Post: sorry I guess that was not exactly a lighter note

Have faith my friend, there is the chance that your cat is tucked away somewhere having a siesta. My cat occasionally goes away for a few days and doesn't come back.
We're pretty sure that he got locked in Garage once and that's why we didn't see him for sometime one time.
Im really sorry for your cat. Hopefully you will find it alive.
I once had a 9-year old Labrador Retriever named Minni. She was a typical dog, always hungry and playful as hell. One day she just slept on our sofa, not moving a limb. I just thought she was tired, but later that night I heard a loud "thumb" sound. I came to her and saw that she had fallen off the sofa, still breathing though but not moving. My mother said that she would take her to the vet the next day.
Next day I woke up and saw Minni again at the Soffa, still sleeping. I hugged her and left to school. When I came home, my mother came to me weeping. I asked what had happened and she said that Minni had passed on. She had some kind of a liver disease and had to be euthanized. I was crushed when I heard the news, but now that time has passed, I have fortunately gotten past it. Now shes buried in our backyard, next to a tree seedling. Through that I know she will live on.
Damn, I dont why did I write all of this, but she was a truly dear pet to me. I loved her to the end.

Again I am so sorry. I've lost a pet in just this manner, and have been periodically checking the thread in the hopes of good news.

My cat nearly died the day before christmas eve of 2010, he was very sick for a while and wouldn't eat or drink, and we were literally about to bring him to the vet to have him put down because he is very old. We ended up running out of time and decided to wait. A couple days later, he started to recover and in a week or so he was back to normal. He's still around and is still rather active, despite being 19 years old.
I'm sorry for your loss. My japanese Bobtail (pic below) died a couple years ago from a baseball sized tumour on the back of her neck. She was about 14, but she lived in the basement, and wasn't really happy, so I think it was for the best. She was a beautiful little cat, and I'll remember her always.
Sort of looked like this, although she must had been mixed, because she was really really dark red and brown on top and snow white on the bottom. What a gorgeous car she was. Beautiful green eyes too.
