I've recently started an Imperial Guard army and i've read the history behind the Elysians
and really want to make an Elysian army but i don't want fork out ridiculous sums of money
for the Forge World models.

Does anyone have any ideas as to how i could turn Cadians into Elysians???

I hate playing eldar, mainly because i don't like getting curbstomped by a 60 foot piece plastic wearing stiletto heels

Not well. A lot of the look of the Elysians is down to the fact they're very close to 'true' 28mm; heads and hands are notably smaller than GW IG ranges.

There was an old-old WD where they gave a breakdown on how to convert Elysinans from plastic and putty.
I might have it lying around somewhere, I'll check.

i have the very same ed of WD need to dig too deep though, IIRC they made them from SM scouts while using Sentinel driver heads, the rest of the model was a scout

Found it.
WD (US) 270
Chapter Approved.
They are made with SM Old Scout Body and an old IG crew helmets(and green stuff), though I think it's eeeeeasily doable with other kits.
You'll need to find pictures of the conversion though for it to be useful. Aside for this, it's a really easy conversion.
Good luck.

The cool forgeworld models are part f the appeal for me really. Id say it was worth just collecting them slowly as you can afford them.

I agree with skippy. Just slow down a bit and use the extra time between purchases to put some extra TLC into your models paint jobs and bases. Do some cool conversions.

Mantic games are releasing some human soldiers that are similar to the Elysian Drop Troops, but the work that would need to go into converting Cadian miniatures would probably be too much effort to get models that just don't look as good as the originals (pretty much a total resculpt).

Thanks for the feedback guys, much appreciated

I can see where you are coming from but i'm not particularly fond of the FG Minis myself.
They just look too.......not 40K if that makes any sense. I would rather spend half as much on Cadians tbh. Good idea though, probably do that for the assault vehicles.

Thanks for the WD article, really helped

Anyway, thanks a lot guys
Happy gaming!

If you just want non-cadian drop troops, and your heart isn't set specifically on Elysians you might want to think about the Harakoni Warhawks:
http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Harakoni_Warhawks

Thier gear is more Cadian in design (they use those blasted shoulderpads! seriously, is the football tackle the only hand to hand technique in the tactica imperialum?), but the conversion process would be able to make better use of more exisiting materials and simpler processes and techniques. Much of what you need could be made using various existing affordable bits and just a couple of sculpted items, some that could be easily reproduced using a simple pressmould instead of mass sculpting.

CURNOW - Thank you very much

I didn't know the Harakoni Warhawks were drop troops. Looking at them, yes i would prefer to do these.
They do look easier and they have a cooler name
And i've found the prefect heads for them aswell.

Thank you all anyway guys, can't wait til my order gets here now I'll be high as a kite on plastic glue

Happy gaming guys!!

Good luck with your army, StJimi101. I'm doing something similar (but a lot cheaper! had a load of Cadian figure kicking about and, also got two space marine armies to support..oh, and a wedding to save up for too ) in that I've got an Elysian themed army but just used Cadian's as they are Based their uniform colours on WWII Screaming Eagles and gave them extra pouches etc as befits an elite, light infantry unit.
I'll be keen to see how you get on with your conversions, keep us posted
