I've read lots of 40k books and not much is mentioned about the imperial assassins. Please could someone tell me about their background. Thank you.

I too am shocked at how little the Officio is used in BL material/fluff in general. I remember in Soul Hunter a Callidus Assassin doesn't consider a lone Astartes any threat. They are an awesome concept and the ultra-elite of the Imperium. Really need to get represented more.

Much like the old fluff of the Grey Knights, what makes the Assassins awesome is that they aren't represented more. As much as we know that they're incredibly powerful, they're still shadowy and mysterious.

Have you read Nemesis? It features assassins more then heavily

This needs to be said every time somebody asks about the Custodes, Malal or missing legions.

There used to be an old supplement codex just for Assassins, it had a bunch of fluff on them. I have it somewhere, can't find it though.

Probably the 2E Codex Imperialis? That one had just about every obscure Imperial faction, from the Arbites to the Sororitas, from the Mechanicus to the Telepathica.

Hell, I think even the Administratum had a page or two.

[edit] Oh, nvm, you meant "just" for Assassins ... feel free to drop the name if you find it, might be an interesting read as that's something I've not heard of yet.

The was a (very brief) second edition Codex: Assassins. I don't recall it doing much more than collating the White Dwarf rules for the four clades, and telling a vaguely uninteresting story about infighting within the Officio Assassinorum back in M35 or thereabouts. The only other thing I recall about it from the time was considering it a waste of a fiver.

I like the old Assassin senarios.

Nemesis was a good read.

I'm glad they retconned the other two houses and revealed their purpose.

I was so confused when they made the two lady assassins for Inquisitor and named them the same as the other two "mystery" houses.

And Lexicanum is wrong again. The Assassin Temples are not on Terra. Each is located on a secret world of its own.

The Culexus Temple is on a rogue planet that just drifts about the stars, for example.

Don't the assassins each have an office hidden on Terra though? Through which they receive their missions?

Sniping some one is hard.
Sniping some one in the head is harder still.
Sniping some one in the head who is km’s away is really hard.
Sniping some one in the head who is km’s away traveling at mach6 in an attack aircraft is impossible.
Sniping some one in the head who is km’s away traveling at mach6 in an attack aircraft WHILE YOU FALL FROM SPACE… is 40k.

The best fluff from the old Assasins Codes was on a Callidus that killed an entire renegade clan/family all 600 or so of them IIRC and it listed as one of the weapons used was a serving ladle and a silver pitcher, now thats improv!

Each of their leaders live on Terra, but they send commands to their home planets
