Messing around with my genestealers a little bit, and wondering if the implant attack on the broodlord is worth the points. Since hell usually attack first, he could take out a independent character and the rest of the genestealers clean up the mess. A sort of side question, if the implant attack succeeds, it does insta death, so does that go through all saves (cover/inv/armor) or does he just lose all wounds when the wound goes through?
im still new to the game, and only have probably like 5~ games under my belt and trying out new things to see how they work out

it has to inflict a wound to do instant death, so it would have to be a rending wound from rending claws, which would ignore armour saves (but invuln saves still happen as normal)

it goes

hit
wound
save

Generally implant attack is too expensive and too situational... you may as well have brought extra genestealers...

I haven't used a broodlord yet... is he worth it? I have a hard time justifying his cost.

Unless you're already maxed on stealers, or want to try a broodlord commando, no. 60 points buys 4 stealers, or 3 toxic stealers (both with change). His psychic abilities, while nifty, aren't worth that much.

I like them. They're a great way to slough off a wound on a model without losing said model.

Genestealers are great; following that logic, bigger genestealers must be better yet. Plus, the acid blood can be useful at times (Apparently I send my troops on suicide runs against 2+ armour far too often).

Perhaps there is merit in fielding 6 broodlords for their cumulative -1 leadership ability? Or is the -1 leadership not cumulative?

Its cumulative.

I like the addition of a T5 3W model to my genestealer broods. I like them best in small, outflanking or inflitrating units whose mission is to steal or contest OBJ's. Its easier to hide in cover 6 Genestealer including a broodlord than it is hiding 9 stealers without a broodlord. Tervigons are not likely to be near by for FNP so having a smaller more durable footprint is better in my opinion.

In big 20 bug units - Id rather just FNP them from a near by Tervigon, as I typically send a unit this size up the middle.

I also like implant attack

The modifier is cumulative, and having two of them around can be a lifesaver against Grey Knights. Unforunately, the way the rule is written, the Aura won't be up during your next shooting phase, so there's no possibility of general Morale shenanigans, which is sort of a shame given Devourers and all the Pinning weapons in the 'Dex.

I love the Broodlord. I mean, how many times do you use Genestealers where all of them survive the trip into assault? I always lose one or two going in (whether from shooting or lack of grenades), so I might as well just throw two wounds on the Broodlord and have the same number of Genestealers as I would have had, only now one of them is an S5 T5 A4 boss with awesome psychic powers.

As for Implant Attack, I don't think it's worth it. Genestealers are a fast assault unit. They shouldn't be throwing themselves at a Death Star (which is the only place I really see a use for instagibbing multi-wound models), they should be using Inflitrate / Outflank / Fleet to prey on shooty units and stationary vehicles.

If you're looking for a unit to throw at a Death Star I honestly think that Bonesword Warriors with a Prime screened by Termagants are the best choice.

Implant Attack can also ID monstrous creatures -- Trygons, Dreadknights... I think if you're bringing a Broodlord anyway, it's worth paying 15pts more for it, but I probably wouldn't add a Broodlord just to get Implant Attack.
