Hey Dakka Dudes,
I really need two questions answers.
1.Besides the regular Accursed Crozius (see image below) what are so other ideas?
2.What role does the Dark Apostle play ( HQ,icon bearer,inspiring leader,etc.)?

I used the power mace form the Dark Angels upgrades for the DArk Apostle I made for a friend. However, there is no place for the Dark Apostle in the current Chaos codex. Check out one of the older codexes for a way to use them.

My advice would be to use a shortened banner pole from the Csm box set along with the Chaos Undivided banner top. You could use him as either a lord or a sorcerer.

What about something like this?
Look he's even shouting and extolling his chaotic battle brothers to victory. All you need to do is file the Khorne symbol off.

Dark Apostles are generally a HQ choice.
They used to be able to be taken in the old codex, but now, they generally need to be represented as a Chaos Lord.
They should be back to being an option come the new codex being released (hopefully) this year!

They can be represented by a Chaos lord with power weapon and personal icon, because that's what it was in the former codex (if I remember right). Mine looked like this (a bit different from the one in the OP):
