I had seen this conversion of a Russian KV-2 into a Leman Russ a couple of times and thought i would give it a try.

So after a visit to my local hobby store, I pick up a 1:48 Russian KV-2 Heavy Tank.

This tank has some pretty goofy proportion to start with, perfect fit with the rest of the Imperial Guard Tanks

A quick build of it proved that the 1:48 scale is a pretty good fit, it is about the same length and height as a new GW LRMBT. It is a little shorter width wise, but only by about the thickness of a tread housing, so that is not a big deal.

I was determined to build this using only my bitz box, so the main gun is a spare hellhammer cannon my Baneblade and the hatch is cobbled together from several sets.

Next, I have to figure out a good way to mount the hull weapons and extend the side pipes on the hellhammer cannon back to the gun mantel. I am pleases with it so far, can't wait to paint it

Feedback welcomed!

A small update. Worked out the hull mounted weapon, used a hull mounted heavy flamer from a chimera with the tip cut off and replaced with a lascannon from a sentinel. The cage around the hull weapon is from a scout sentinel.

Nice, I like the housing for the lascannon. Good idea.

Update!

Put a black under coat on the model and did some basic details and the road wheels in boltgun metal. Built one side of the treads.

The new LRMBT kit made me forget how much I hated putting treads on road wheels, this project was kind enough to remind me

Very nice. I've always been a fan of KV 1s and 2s. I like what you've done with the barrel. It just says "boom" to me.

Looks good in scale too, although, it's always hard to deal with GW's grossly out of scale vehicles. This one fits in good. Are you planning on doing a lot of weathering?

it's nice, but it's dreadfully the wrong scale. You can see by the size of the infantry models in the picture that the tank is half as big as it should be. I mean, how could anybody fit in the bottom to drive it?

Apart from this, it looks nice.

yeah, but there's a limit. I mean, you notice how the front circular hatch has a quarter of the area of the 40k scale circular hatch?

There can be some changes in squares & a bit size modifications in hatches. I like this.
