So, First and foremost I am not trying to start a debate on whether or not other races can or cannot be Vampires. Personally I think they can and thus have themed my Army around it. This is my fluff that I have modified with excerpts from the 7th ed. vampire book and hope that it can remain constant in 8th.

There is an area in Sylvannia called the Hunger Wood. It is rumored that a female vampire and her coven inhabit these woods (this is all in the 7th ed. book if I recall the fluff correctly.)
To suit my Army, this Vampire was attacked by Wood Elves trying to drive the "evil" from the woods. Well, the Wood Elves failed and their Spell Weaver was captured alive and "turned". As such the "spirit" of the woods became corrupt with the Spell Weaver's dark taint and now bends to the Wood Elf Vampire's will. (This is my Lord)
To add to the theme I have taken dryads and use them intermixed with Ghouls and Skeletons as counts as models to make it look like the units are coming out of the trees (and that the trees are even fighting with them). I also have Wood Elf Archers as my Spirit Hosts.

Thoughts?

Dude nice, I like the idea of the undead wood elves. You got an undead giant by any chance? Tree of the dead conversion maybe?

I think that's a great idea.

In Ravenloft 3.0, there were rules for all kinds of Vampires. I think the Halfling Vampires were the saddest- they couldn't travel more than a mile from wherever they died, and the smell of pipe smoke choked them. They also couldn't enter a dwelling with a fire burning in the hearth. The ones that died away from civilised areas went insane with hunger.

In my mind there are really only three races I would have a hard time imagining as vampires just due to their fluff. That is Lizards, Dwarves and OnG. A vampire ogre or skaven would be really funny

The only races I have doubts about being vampires are Orcs and Ogres, mostly because it is difficult to imagine them stopping at the blood part. The others just need their own style.

There was an old showcase of a Vampire Count army on the GW site (Can't find it anymore =/) that involved massive amounts of conversion to represent undead High Elves. Your idea is definitely similar, would love to see it when it's ready.

Some people play to win, some people play for fun. Me? I play to kill toy soldiers.

I uploaded pictures to my Dakka Gallery. Let me know what you think both here and on the pictures.

Now back to the background, since I am pretty sure it was a Lahmian who inhabbited the woods and who "sired" my Vampire Lord I think it would be pretty easy to add a Coven Throne to the list (fluff wise) I am not thinking of using this as my Lord choice but as a hero level vampire within the army. I figure it could merely be another thrall of the main Vampire who has been appointed as an underling to my Lord.

Also, if you go look at the pictures you can see that everything is painted but I have not done basing yet, I am thinking fall but after the leaves have fallen off the trees and are brown, dead, and rotting. What would be good basing for this? Someone mentioned doing snow as it would lend to the cold creepiness of the woods "a chill in the air, colder than one would think for this time of year, creeping down the spine" Since the bases are initially done with a Graveyard Earth, any thoughts on how to do a muddy snow mixture?

Also I think the new Hexwraith models will be a nice addition to this army acting as the spirits of fallen riders hunting the living for tresspassing in the woods. (similar to the headless horseman) Same reasoning that Black Knights could be an easy add.

So to add to this I am thinking of kitbashing Chaos Knights with Wood Elf Glade Riders to make some Blood Knights.
