Subject: Tau Wargear question.

Hey guys this is kinda a rules question but I don't know where to post so it goes here... In the tau codex they state that a battle suit must take 3 options from the battlesuit weapons or support section and some may also take additional items from the wargear section. Is this number limited? I don't see many suits with a lot on them outside of the usual 3 and a hardwired option. Can you have several hardwired options? I'm assuming you can but it looks funny to me because I have like 3 hardwired options and then the 3 entitiled weapons or suppoty sytems. The only restriction I see is that it can't exceed 100 pts. Also I ask if other items in the wargear section count towards the 3 systems if they are not hardwired? I am trying to muddle my way through the Tau codex as I am trying to learn to play and don't want to short change anyone.
Thanks!
Ben

You may take items from the weapons and support section, so long as you don't take any more or less than 3 hardpoints worth. Remember twin linked is 2 hard points.
As for the wargear section, yes you can take all you want, so long as you don't go above 100 points. The wargear section doesn't count towards or against the 3 hardpoint limit.
Tip since your still learning the army: Iridium armor, stimulant injectors, 2 shield drones on a HQ with an airburster and fusion blaster solves most tau problems while being crazy hard to kill.

I'm gonna explain this they only way I know how, with examples lol. The wargear cannot be taken by any Crisis Suit. It is limited to Shas'o, Shas'el, and Shas'vre suits (in addition to their hardpoints). Shas'ui may not take ANY wargear options. (In non-tau language: Capts, Bodyguards, and Team Leaders can take additional wargear.) Legal Examples: Shas'ui: - Twin-Linked Missle Pods, Flamer (3 hardpoints) - Plasma Rifle, Missle Pod, Multi-tracker (3 hardpoints) Shas'o, el, vre: - Plasma Rifle, Fusion Blaster, Shield (4++), Hardwired Multi-tracker (3 hardpoints, 1 Wargear) - Twin-Linked Fusion Blaster, Multi-tracker, Hardwired Drone Controller + drones, Hardwired targetlock (3 hardpoints, 2 Wargear) Hope that kinda explains it for you, and that I read your question right. Just to add as well, Shas'o, el, vre's are NOT allowed to take more than the allotted 3 hardpoints, ONLY additional wargear.

If you only have 2 battlesuits, then roll with one shas'el with what I mentioned and a targeting array, and another shas'el with a missile pod and plasma rifle instead of the other 2 guns, you should be able to handle anything in low points games with that, if you don't have any other anti-tank in your army, run another fusion blaster instead of plasma.

Thanks guys! This answered my question Only other thing I could ask is just for a clarification on markerlights. I know you can designate each markerlight hit to do one of several things. My question is that if say you have only one markerlight hit and designate to improve the attacking units BS by 1. Does that mean that only one unit can shoot at the markerlighted enemy before the markerlight is used? Or does it heighten the BS of as many units that you decide to shoot with that enemy with? Cause I imagined a markerlight as like a laser designator that heightens any unit firing on the designated target and should remain till the end of the shooting phase.
Thanks!

One unit. Once that unit has fired the marker is expended.
