Hey hey hey,

I have returned after a hiatus in gaming and army building due to all sorts of crazy junk involving university, genocide and man-eating squirrels.

But to get to the bacon of the matter two months ago my girlfriend persuaded me to get back into the hobby big style and convinced me it was in my best interest to start an army from scratch and buy a whole heap of stuff from Forge World. So I did.

Best. Girlfriend. Ever.

Anyway, I have to bulk a blog up with text-squiggles as well as pictures so watch me waffle! My flaw when army building is having no structure while doing so and just plodding along so I aimed to do this one differently which meant I had to do it from scratch and with a plan. And a plan I did make! I bought Codex: Space Marines (my first one since 3rd edition) and wrote up a 1,500pt list that I liked the look of (both by ability and how awesome they'd look) so that I didn't just flitter between squads and not get a damned thing done.

My favourite legion is by far the Night Lords but since I already have a tru-scale project in the works I opted to go for my second favourite; Iron Warriors. I have never done a loyalist army before leave alone a Space Marine one so this is all very new to me.

I had to wait until January before I could do my ForgeWorld order since xmas eats a chunk into all our wallets so I made a few marines using stuff from my bits box and here are the results:

Currently I am going through all my little bags of ForgeWorld gubbins and clipping, filing, reshaping and soaking. It's a herculean effort but I'm getting there. I have been naughty and made a few marines as I've gone along to sate my painting itch:

Hopefully more to come later today after I've come back from having a coffee and buying a new dustpan and brush.

I've been waiting for these to turn up on here! Your girlfriend is a genius.

Not much to critique this early on - I'm looking forward for some mad conversion work though. Did you see Klausmasterflex's Iron Hands army? Admittedly not the same thing, but you're sure to draw some inspiration from it.

Behind you!

A nice pile of swag.

I'm liking the terminator but please drill out the bolter barrels. Not doing this makes badgers weep.

If in doubt, read the flipping quest log!

You started an account just to tell me that when you could've simply waited until you saw me to tell me?? XD

Righty, I've taken a quick break from more work on my genocide studies (thank you France for giving me lots of juicy new information in that regard!) to post a quick update.

First up I have the makings of my Iron Warrior Captain with command squad:

I bought the Champion just after Xmas as I liked the armour and thought I could use it. I got a big lecture from a blueshirt about how finecast is better than FW resin when I bought it but that didn't stop my disappointment from setting in when I realised that the Champion seems to be slightly small than your average Space Marine. Still, I used him and he's armed with a thunder hammer and bolt pistol. Behind him is a Veteran with an Apothecary which brings me onto another member of the squad...

The Champion. I love the heads of the Sevrin Loth retinue so I picked up a few from eBay and just had to use it here.

Next up is the first Tactical Squad:

It's a bit of a mixed bag but uniformity wasn't exactly an Astartes' strongest trait pre-heresy.

I threw together this guy this morning while reading up a little on Rwanda (reading about people hacking up other people with machetes sort of brings a downer to your day so I balanced it rather well with superglue and resin!). He's going to be my "heavy bolter" in the above Tactical Squad.

The pitiful makings of my Devastator Squad at the moment. I've only managed to get together the Sergeant and a missile launcher. I have the Forge World Devastator stuff to build yet.

Now for something a bit more heavy hitting! My Contemptor so far. Was a pain in the behind to file away the Imperial Eagle from the chest. Why FW decided to put that on there is beyond me when it is easy enough to apply one of their brass-etched Eagles on if so desired.

My shiny Predator! In pre-heresy configuration (no Lascannon turrets here!) This was a pain to build as the side-armour was warped to buggery!

Last, and by no means least, my Master of the Forge! Using metal techmarine bits and the FW kit.

Everything is still very much a work in progress. Where you see blank yellow is where chevrons are to be painted and since I started making this army I have discovered that I suck royally at painting chevrons!! And you may have noticed that I have yet to figure out how to use my girlfriend's SLR camera.

You probably won't see more of me until my day off on Friday now :(

Love it bro. The metal technique looks super impressive on your contemptor. I love this.

I concur, these are awesome, and dont worry about the chevrons, they look fine.

The metal looks quite nice but you need some contrast between the metal and the brass trim. Perhaps a black micron pen or a simple fine line black wash.

^
The brass trim on these two's pauldrons merge with the iron, to me it looks, for want of a kinder word, sloppy. The chevrons imo also need a gradient highlight on the yellow to really 'Pop'.

Apart from that some nice modelling and always great to see more forgeworldey goodness.

Sweet - just what I need as inspiration to get back into my projects!

Confusing that FW put the imp eagle on the pre-heresy dread, as in the 'pre-heresy' period, only the Emp Children were granted the eagle (as a sign of their favour in the emp's eyes).

Looking forward to more winning.
