NECRON CRYPT HAUNTER – 175 points

Crypt Haunters are humanoid construction walkers, used by Crypteks to construct the enormous spaceships, war machines and even the tombs and necropoli of the Necron Tomb Worlds. Wielding great servo-driven limbs for lifting heavy loads and numerous arcane construction tools, these vehicles can be pressed into service if foreign invaders threaten a Necron crypt. Enhanced by the mysterious technologies of the Crypteks, the Crypt Haunter can prove deadly on the battlefield as it unleashed devastating gauss and tesla blasts and grinds the enemy into dust with its phase sculptors and atom whittlers.

UNIT
1 Crypt Haunter, 1 Cryptek

TYPE
Vehicle, Walker

SPECIAL RULES
Living Metal
Quantum Shielding
Iron Symbiote

Iron Symbiote: The Crypt Haunter is powered by the eldritch technologies of its Cryptek crew. During deployment, when a Necron Overlord’s royal court divides to lead other units, one Cryptek may choose to crew a Crypt Haunter. In this case, the Crypt Haunter benefits from all of the Cryptek’s wargear that has unit-wide effects (Lighting Fields, Gaze of Flame etc.) but the Cryptek may not use any of its own specific wargear (such as its staff, phase shifter, etc.) The only piece of wargear exempt from this is the Veil of Darkness – it may not be used to teleport the Crypt Haunter. If the Crypt Haunter is destroyed the Cryptek may disembark and carry on fighting if it makes its armor save.

WARGEAR
Twin-linked Gauss Cannon
Dreadnought close combat weapon with inbuilt Gauss Blaster

OPTIONS
The Crypt Haunter may exchange its Twin-Linked Gauss Cannon with any of the following:
• Dreadnought close combat weapon with inbuilt gauss blaster - free
• Single tesla destructor – 10 points
• Particle beamer – 10 points
• Particle shredder – 25 points
• Phase sculptor – 50 points
Atom whittler - 20 points

One close combat weapon may be exchanged for an Atom Whittler for 30 points.

Phase Sculptor: An array of mechanical claws and criss-crossing laser beams, phase sculptors are computer-controlled laser cutters used to shape necrodermis into bricks, obelisks, or statues. In combat, a phase sculptor can be fired in two modes:

Fabrication mode – Range Strength AP Type
20” 7 3 Assault 2
Unleashed mode - Range Strength AP Type
12” 4 5 Heavy 15

Atom Whittler: An atom whittler is a delicate projector mechanism used to adorn Necron structures with glyphs and icons by raising atoms of the metal into bas-relief. This effect proves to be horrific in combat as unfortunate souls trapped within its grasp soon find their veins pushing up through their skin and their blood vessels turning inside out.

While the Crypt Haunter is in close combat, place a large blast marker over its head. Any model underneath it suffers a Strength 3, no AP automatic hit. This is used instead of attacking normally.

• It may replace the gauss blasters built into its dreadnought close combat weapons with tesla carbines for free.

The Heavy 20 weapon seems a little much IMO but thats just because in my limited experience I have yet to come across something at this points value with that much firepower. Perhaps unleashed mode could use a blast template to represent rapid resculpting within that field of fire.

I'd suggest changing the Atom Whittler to a replacement for the CC weapon and not the main gun. This is purely because if you take it and the CC weapon you only have a Gauss Blaster at range, and EITHER the Whittler or a Dreadnought weapon in CC.

The leman Russ punisher has the same weapon stats and heavier armour than this for only 165 points.

I would suggest dropping it down to 15 or 10 shots an decreasing the points, and adding a blast as Melcavuk wrote. Otherwise, I really like it, it is a unique idea and something really different.

The Punisher is 180 points, has BS 3, and AP -. Aside from the strength and number of shots, the Walker's weapon is much much much better.

The Punisher does have better armor, marginally.

A str 4 ap5 weapon with thirty shots should cost, by itself, at least 240 points

because that's how many points of bolters 30 shots is in a Marine army.

to be honest i hate playing against necrons and i think that rule that makes them able to say FU to the insta death rule is abit over powered... but i do like the idea of the walker make it look like an exo suit and i say go for it all the ideas i like too the only thing i dont like is the fact that its another way to tell me FU again when i try to kill it :/

Thats what Necrons are Tecker, it is what sets them apart, they aren't particularly over competitive and require a skilled player (Just as with almost all armies) to be top tier. If you want it to not get back up, then you don't want it to do what Crons do, it isn't saying FU, it is just what crons do.
