Hi everyone

I just found out that two of my best friends are going to start warhammer fantasy and I want to start playing with them. They have decided to go with the starter set, leaving one person to have HE, while the other gets Skaven (more than likely we will be playing at the 1000-1500 pt level, to start off with). I've mostly been a 40k player, but I have some limited knowledge of fantasy. So with that said, I've narrowed my choices to either WoC or Beastmen. I have a C:SM army in 40k, so I was drawn to WoC naturally and I also love the look of the Beastmen models, so I am kind of stuck on which army to go with. Now I know that everyone says WoC are pretty forgiving and overall a very good army, but no one has really mentioned anything about beastmen to me. So I was wondering if I can get some input before I run out and start buying models as I am limiting my budget to one army at the moment.

Thanks

kessler

Warriors of Chaos, no doubt.

Strong army, easy to play, reasonable options and easy on the eyes.

Beastmen are slightly overcosted on almost everything, have few options outside of magic spam and some of the worst monsters in the game. Also they have (I think) a weak story/model set.

Beginner tips for Warriors of Chaos-
Stick with lots of chunky core choices (marauders/warriors)
Add 2-3 small fast units to clear the way
Add hellcannons or warshrines to taste

Big chunky combat units supported by artillery, magic and small fast units is what this game is about.

Woc are pretty awesome and have some cool models.

You could take beastmen like bestigors as gw marauders.

The battalion is a good buy for chaos. Everything is good and useful in there.

They are fun to play and have a lot of flavor.

WoC.

Beastmen are generally recognized as a bit of a flop of GW team.

Beastmen are a really strong army book in the right hands (I am on a 10 game streak with them right now) but they have a steep learning curve.

Warriors are really point and shoot

As the poster above me said, Beastmen are just sheer win if played correctly. I have played them for a long time, And I have won more games with them than any other fantasy army.

But WoC is definitivly more beginner friendly

I wouldn't say point and shoot because last few times I pointed and shot the hellcannons missed :(

they do have a pretty good degree of forgivness and don't need buffs so that saves you a lot of trouble.
Also lots of flavor there are a lot of themes you can do and just all around fun. Mix all that with cool models and lots of monsters and you are set.

Maybe it is just 200+ Marauders that is point and shoot.....

Thanks for the input guys, I went ahead and picked up both army books and as a bonus I got a free copy of the chaos deamons army for buying the other two. I have played against deamons but only on the 40k side, how are they on the fantasy side?

I wonder how deamons match up against skaven and HE, the two armies I'll be playing against the most.

They would hold up just fine if used right just like most armies it all depends on your play style and army list.

It's a hole in the wall comic shop that I've been going to for years, they're game workshop retailer also and they seem to sell mostly 40K stuff(for the times I been there).

I just started and I went WoC and so far I really like them. Way tough and they hit like a truck.

After reading the Daemons army book, I find myself leaning more towards them now and on the plus side they're not like their 40K counterpart in which they deep strike in(because the dice gods never seem to favor me on deep striking).

I love Beastmen. Love them, love them, love them. I have had a lot more success with them than I did with my Skaven. People that have been playing Fantasy for a while can do great with them, but they may not be great as a beginner army (unless you just want to pick one and done).

Please take what I said with a grain of salt, though, as I prefer my Daemons on round bases.

Thanks again everyone for the input, I've gone ahead and decided to do Daemons(probably a let down for some due to me asking originally about beastmen and woc). I chose them because of the versatility that they offer, in the sense that if I show up with them and no one at the moment is playing fantasy, I can easy play a game of 40K with them.
