Subject: Any future THQ games you were looking forward to on the horizon? Yeah, stop looking.

"The Imperium is nothing if not willing to go to any lengths necessary. So the Trekkies are zipping around at warp speed taking small chucks out of an nigh-on infinite amount of ships, with the Imperium being unable to strike back. feth it, says central command, and detonates every vortex warhead in the fleet, plunging the entire sector into the Warp. All I see is some random douche on twitter whom has no proven connection to THQ as his source.

This actually wouldn't shock me. THQ has several successful titles but it also produces a lot of unsuccessful titles and doesn't really have many huge hitters. I'll wait for more info but I could see THQ go under.
Keep in mind that other sites might take the same gakky source and parrot it to try to make themselves feel relevant.

Well, considering it's coming from the twitter feeds of one of the heads of the International Game Developers Association, I'd say there's some weight.

THQ has by-and-large, made crappy games for a long time. Doesn't surprise me one bit. You just can't ride on the success of a few good titles and expect to come out ahead.

I have serious doubts until something more substantial appears on a dedicated gaming news site or something official comes from THQ themselves. However if THQ does indeed go under, that is a worrying sign for the industry, bad recent releases or not.
Although I'd not panic yet, while maybe some titles would be lost forever (the 40K MMO sadly likely to be one of them) I would think many of the main games would find new homes as development studios jump ship to other publishers.

Well this is kind of ridiculous. Until you can give me more sources other than the same thing this "Heads of the International Game Developers Association" I will not believe you.
Also, I really enjoy THQ Games. They are actually well put together and generally fun.

Now if only your enjoyment could fund their marketing department, pay the salaries of the grunts, fund development, and keep the studios afloat when they release a flop.
I like some of THQ's stuff too, but the fact does stand that THQ isn't the most successful publisher in the industry and has only a small number of profitable franchises, none of which compete with mega hits like Modern Warfare, Halo, C&C, or Battlefield. THQ is a jockey without a derby winning pony so to speak
Also the only game series off the top of my head that has managed to sale really well for THQ. Am I forgetting another franchise? EDIT: Ah Company of Heroes!

MX vs ATV, maybe?

That's THQ's problem. They've been long term publishers of the Ultimate Fighter and WWE franchises and assortment of others, but none of them really make much money (though they have lower budgets).
But not all hope is lost, I am still waiting for any official news from the company about the matter at hand.
And 40k has logic - everybody is fitting for survival and galaxy dominance, pick your side and annihilate all others.

Anyway, I really hope this isn't true. I was looking forward to DMO. But my hopes for that aren't particularly high anyway as I've lost faith in THQ after the abomination that was Homefront,

Rumors indicate (truthfully or not) that the company is doing poorly which causes the company's stock to go down. Yay and all that... which reduces the company's ability to obtain capital... which causes the company to not do as well as before...

You really want to argue that with a stock value drop of almost 90% that they aren't doing badly and it's all in everyone's head? Its not like this is a rumor that's been circulating for months. Even if it is just imaginary all that is needed to ruin the company is for people to think it and apparently people have been thinking that THQ is a bad bet for awhile (worse than I thought).

Given the volatility of the stock market, yes. Stock prices can frequently behave quite independently of the company's actual financial success. THQ has had several very successful and profitable games-- even homefront was profitable for them, Space Marine was moreso, Dawn of War 2 was VERY profitable, and of course their pro-wrestling line of games are always strong with the wrestling-loving crowd (which is fairly big).
It is very much believable to me that stupidity, rumor-mongering, and stock market volatility can harm a company far below its real value-- or inflate it vastly beyond its value. I have paid attention to history after all.

Homefront, DoW2, and their WWE franchise have not sold well. They've all be so so in sales compares to their budgets. DoW became unsatisfactory financially when the expansions didn't meet expectations. Space Marines sold decently but there was nothing remarkable about its sales. Meanwhile, THQ has closed half a dozen studios in the past few years, released dozens of flops and has only a single blockbuster. Saints Row.
You don't lose practically all your stock value on a fluke.

Until we hear it from the company itself we will consider this a rumor only. And the reason why stock market is going badly is because THERE IS A GLOBAL CRISIS IN THE WORLD. just look at the EU, we almost beak apart if not for Germany.
