Sub hunters: The hunter gunners are experienced in fighting ork submersibles and other water based opponents and as such their weapons benefit as
having an additional AP point when shooting at enemy units in water.

Options:
May replace the side mounted heavy bolters with two assault cannons with shredder rounds [S4 AP5 heavy8] for 30pts
May replace the exterminator autocannon with a twin linked lascannon for free.
May replace the rear heavy stubber with a heavy bolter with ripper shells for 10pts
May replace the crew with veterans making the Valkyrie BS4 for 25pts


Fluff:
Based on an old STC found on terra known as the 'black cat' the Valkyrie hunter was first used during the first war for vykus, a water planet , during the first assault on the planet the imperial guard forces of the 113th mortis had met many surprise counter attacks from ork subs on the planets only tiny continent. The guard realised that the orks home base was a giant water bound ship in the middle of the planets main ocean purifi. The ork ship known as the Da Biggun was a factory for the subs. The imperial navy sent a squadron of their rarely used Valkyrie hunters to deal with the submersibles. The hunters, staying true to their origins were fantastic at dealing with the ork vessels and it was a shot from the rear heavy stubber that killed the ork's warlord skully madd'un and sent the orks packing. The imperial navy then realised the power of this ancient pattern and it has now entered widespread use among the imperial guard. Poor orks!

Awesome idea and all, if only we had underwater units...

Well it can be used against any unit in water terrain to great effect and don't forget that it doesn't have to be used against units in water and, from my experience it's fantastic againd light infantry like ork boyz and guardsmen.

Shouldn't it be BS3? just fit with other IG vehicles.

This^ It should be like other guard vehicles, and also, it has so many shots it shouldn't matter to much, keep the cost the same.

It was gives BS4 because it was crewed by veterans but I've changed to BS3

Hi I read that part and I'm having a dig at the fluff, but in the current IG rules there is no vet option for vehicle (Except Pask)

Treating the crew as veterans was simply because my army is based around veterans however I reduced the bs by 1 but I am going to add the ability to make the gunners veterans.

My only problem is with the weapons. Exterminator autocannon is fine (S7 AP4 Heavy 4, Twin-linked), but the other weapons don't make sense. Heavy bolters fire three rounds, and I think that reducing the strength and adding a shot does not make it balanced. I think it should be left as either a regular heavy bolter, or given the option to take a heavy stubber.

Same goes for the rest of the weapons. For best balance and playability with other gamers, stick to normal wargear everyone knows, rather than adding in new ammunition that completely reworks the weapon. The front mounted heavy stubber can just be "Two twin-linked heavy stubbers".

The assault cannon option doesn't make a lot of sense, seeing as its not really an IG weapon, but kept to the Astartes, much like the rhino and so on. That's more of a fluff thing...and 16 shots is a little much.

Finally, the rear armour should be 10. There's not a whole lot of reasons to change it to anything else, seeing as its still a Valkyrie/Vendetta/Vulture style vehicle.

I understand that you want a lot of dakka, and defensive dakka at that, but modifying current weapons just to get in an absurd number of shots won't make you any friends. With the changes I suggested, it'd put out six S4 AP6 to the front, and a further three from each side. Add in the autocannons, and the rear facing stubber (make it twin-linked, like on the marauder). Its still a fantastic amount of shots on a fast platform, but not stupid broken like the 30 S4 shots you could achieve before. Twelve forward S4 shots is more than enough, particularly defensive with BS4, on a fast platform.

All that said, I think you could drop it down to 160pts and leave the veteran option, which I like.

Something to think about.

This is why it costs 185pts. I have played a few games with it and everyone has agreed that this is a reasonable points cost and that the ammo types are not overpowered. But if that's what you think, if you were playing with the model you can always adapt the rules to what you see as fair. It's all the fun of the game!
