I was doing some quick workings out earlier and in the last 4 or so years I have spent nearly £2700 on video gaming.
This includes;
My ps3
my PC
my psp
a screen for ps3 and PC to run off
and all the games for the above

I knew I had spent a lot, but geeez not this much.
so Dakka how much have you spent in the past few years on video games?

And where the hell did i get all this money from!

Interesting question.
All in, that includes everything ranging from monthly subs, to new keyboards, to a new PC, I'd say around 3 grand.

Last four years.

I'm with Soladrin. Had three gaming PC's in that time, Aura and I subbed to WoW for that entire period, got Collectors editions, and such, brought vanity pets. Plus had Warhammer MMO Collectors editions.

Also my xbox collection went from about twelve games to nearly fifty, plus various accessories. Plus two Xbox 360's, (getting a third in March - not mad mind, had a RRoD about three years ago, got a cheap console 360 to tie me over, upgraded to a new 120GB Kinect Xbox, giving the console one to my boys. The third one will be the R2 D2 one, and the boys will get my 120Gb) a wii, various games for the Wii, DS and games for it. Oh and a 40" HD TV that was mainly purchased because the 360 games would look their best.

Its a lot.

I may write out the list of stuff.
If I included my ps2 and games, well it would take me forever as I could probably stack the cases from floor to ceiling.

Wow, yeah, upwards of 10k USD in the last 4 years.

I have a top of the line desktop with 3 monitors, one of which is a 42"TV, and the other 2 are 23" HD widescreens. (~4,000 USD)

A top of the line laptop with a secondary monitor that is my old 32" TV. (The TV is old, so ~2,000 USD)

A crappy laptop that I bought exclusively so I could confine intrusive clients to my other 2 CPUs. (~600 USD)

The 42" is also hooked to my PS3 and 360, both of which I bought new copies of a couple years ago. (~600 USD)

I have no idea how much I've spent on games in the same period.

But at least my steam library is probably under $150.

The problem with including the cost of my PC is that I don't just game on it... I do work and homework on it as well.

I think it's fair to average the costs across years. The most expensive hardware purchases are very occasional. I think I probably average around 600$ per year

I probably average a third of that barring console purchases. More since Steam came up with its cheap sales.

Probably around 5,000 USD. I've been at this for as long as I can remember, but I generally don't buy a game at full price unless I play on dumping a serious amount of hours into it. Everything else I wait for Steam sales.

Oh, and it also cost me the ability to socialize and the last vestiges of my sanity. So there's that.

There are some who walk until their legs fail them and they fall to the ground. I find that respectable.
Then there are those who drag themselves further. I find that admirable.

Maybe $100-200 a year(if even that much). I rarely buy games and when I do, I tend to play them for months.

It's pretty easy to keep it cheap, since I don't care about what Modern Battlefield or whatever sequel comes out every month.

$3500 or so in 360 games
$300 for the 360
$450 or so on Wii + games
$3000ish on computer upgrades over time and another $1000 or so in games

I have no idea on Xbox, PS2, PS1, GameCube, SNES, etc. I would guess in the $2-3000 range.

So, total: probably about $10,000-12,000.

Joys of being a gamer for my entire life.

And Mel, you've gotta include the PC, or at least the difference from a bare-bones to whatever it is you have. Yeah, I could have spent $500 to get a computer that I could do homework on when I was in school, or I could (and did) spend more than that and game on it.

PS3 bundle: $299
PS3 games inc trade ins and stuff, $200

Computer: $600 ish
Steam Games: $100 or less
World of Warcraft subscriptions for 1.5 years

Total: $1500 and less.

Warhammer:

Paint and accessories: $200 ( paints, medium, pigment, brushes, primer, varnish, flocks, glue , clamp )
Conversion accessories: $40 ( plasti card . tube. etc etc )

Warhammer Fantasy: 10 factions , average of $300 , $3000

Warhammer 40K: 13 armies, average of $300, $3900

Forge World: $ 600 atleast.

Total of $7470 thats on a lenient side, who on earth can come up with a $300 CANADIAN army.... so probably $10,000

So personally.... i find video games cheaper....
