I'm looking to add some plague marines to my new CSM army at some point. However, they cost like $50 for 5 finecast models, and I honestly just do not want to pay that much.

Is it possible for me to just paint a regular CSM Plague colors, give him a nurgle mark on his shoulder, and pass him off? Or is there something specific about the model that really differentiates it? I guess I'm just a poor bastard... lol

thanks for any help

on the forum. Obviously

Meh. Seems fine to me.
If you want though, you could just put some GS on them to represent slime/snot/decaying matter/whatever.

on the US site, its 45 bucks for 7

but anyhow, I just painted up my first box of plagueys, and I can say that visually they are much much different looking from regular CSM boxes. However, this probably shouldn't be much of an issue, so long as when you model them you clearly differentiate them from another squad that ISNT blessed by Papa Nurgle.

I'd use greenstuff to make slime and mutations and then you could use 'em as Plague Marines.

So long as they look different than the rest of your normal marines, no one should complain.

If you get the Death Guard conversion set from Forge World then all the parts are separate - that way you can spread them across a lot more regular CSM models...

And maybe add to them with some of these handy bits. A combination of conversion bits and a bit of greenstuff can go an awful long way...

It is seven per box, and you can get them much cheaper on ebay. Lots of resellers give 25-50 percent discount, and then there are the people unloading old figs even cheaper.

The chaos cult troops practically beg you for conversion, and anyone who wants to do something cool and different with their models should go for it. Don't buy the finecast ones unless you REALLY want to.

Buy normal Chaos marines second hand, Paint them as Plague Marines. This is what a friend of mine did and I had no idea they were not the Plague Marine Models.

Probably no one will notice as not many people play chaos.

Converting them is always an option. I had a blast with my plague marines, and now that I've sold all my previous works, I can get started converting new ones.

Normal CSM + a dab or two of greenstuff = instant plague marine! And with much more variable weapons!

If I remember when I get home I'll post a link I have saved for GSing your own Plague Marines. Then you can just eBay a bunch of regular CSM and do this really cheap.

When I think Plague Marines, I immediately see bloated bellies and gas mask-like helmets.

If you can afford it, yeah, find some green stuff and go nuts. They have too strong an identity not to exploit it.
The FW kit looks awesome.

Depends on what you want from the figs. If you want a fig that works on the table and is easily identifiable as its unit, your plan works fine. If you want a detailed mini that really puts forth the feel and nastiness of the followers of nurgle buy the Forgeworld or GW plague marine minis. You can probably find some already built GW plague marines on ebay for less than it would cost to buy regular CSMs new. Just a thought.

The only way I can see this as an issue is if you have an entire nurgle themed army and all the units look this way, but only *some* are plague marines. If you are just adding plague marines to an already existing baseline CSM army this works perfectly fine.
