So I live pretty close to Chicago, and am thinking of going to Adepticon. I don't have a fully painted force, nor time to get one into shape for a tournament before then, and with a brand-new baby due in March, not very much time for all the other good stuff like painting seminars :(

I am interested in going if possible for bitz-trading, and brief mingling with other war-gaming enthusiasts. Are the "Bitz Trading" events (10-Midnight Friday, 10-Midnight Saturday) free to go to? On the Adepticon schedule, they're color-coded black, or "Convention Events/Demos," and it says that "Demos" are free, but "Bitz Trading" does not appear in the "Demo Event Descriptions" at the end of the schedule document (PDF).

Can anyone help clear up my confusion? I am a bitz FANATIC (as many of you know, from trades here or on Bartertown) and I love trading in person and with a big group even more!

Thanks in advance for any info fellow Dakkanauts!

-C6

Bitz trading is free. You need the badge to register for any ticketed event.

So, there's an open area where the Bitz Trading takes place (informally? is there a process?) that I can just walk into with my bits and trade, chat, and hang out with other folks?

I believe they run it in the main tournament area after the days events are over. I know they do the Yard Sale there.

Last year there was no formal trading area, basically people piled into one corner of the room after the main tourney cleared out and did their trading where ever they could find space and some trading was also going on in the hallway.

So basically bring your box of stuff and plop down where you can find other people who want to trade. It does help if you can get items in baggies or sorted into general lots by type as most people don't want to dig through a pile o random bitz and having some organization will help you move stuff.

I saw a couple guys with tool boxes or bead boxes for small bits sorted by faction.

Really good way to clear out unused stuff.

Also there was a dealer set up out in the hallway that was open 24 hours all convention that had a massive bits collection but also buys in bulk, not sure if they'll be there this year but I hope so as he had a huge amount of stuff.

Wow, that sounds awesome! I tend to keep my stuff roughly organized anyway (my friend suggested a certain cheap fishing tackle box that is great for the purpose). I also frequently put together "theme" bags that I sell or trade, designed for specific requests, containing a variety of bits geared for certain purposes (for example, I've done "Mechanicus" themed bits bags/lots half a dozen times at least.)

And if there's anyone set up selling bits (assuming they're at relatively reasonable prices) I'll be saving my pennies for that!

At any rate, for those of y'all planning to go, keep your eyes peeled during the Bitz Trading times for a tall, kinda slim, dark-complexion white guy with a Zombie t-shirt which is my user icon here at Dakka as well as at Bartertown. I'm the bits Godfather! : { (<-that's my "Godfather" emoticon...)

Hope to see a bunch of you other bitz junkies at Adepticon!

There are usually quite a few people selling stuff. One year I picked up 1000 points of Orks painted to a very high quality for something like 85 bucks.

Really?! So there is more than just bitz trading/selling? People are selling whole models, even painted ones, and armies? That sounds pretty cool too!

a few years ago, I brought a big suitcase full of stuff. I ended the night with a empty suitcase and almost a $1000. Pictures where taken of me on the bed rolling mostly naked on the money. I hope they have been deleted.

So it's almost that time! I'm gonna be there at Adepticon with as many bits and stuff as I can carry to trade with whatever fellow gamer/hobbyist is crazy enough to haggle with me!

Look for the tall, skinny guy wearing the ZOMBIE T-SHIRT that is my DakkaDakka user icon/avatar

<---right there to the left of this post

Come up and let's make some deals! I'll be loaded down with bits boxes, trays, bags, sacks, socks, ziplocs, pouches, and will probably even have bitz in my pockets!

I love trading bitz! Come out to Chi-town and let's make a deal!

Thanks Dakkanauts!

Yep. There's a huge assortment of stuff there. Grabbed an unopened pack of customizable movement trays for super cheap one year cause I'd forgotten mine for the Fantasy TT.

Make sure to bring cash in advance, last year the ATM's were down and most of the local banks are a bit of a drive. Lots of people were left a bit short on cash because of spotty ATM service.

Most of the vendors will take plastic but a few are cash only, cash is always king and you won't go wrong having some on hand for that cool item or bit you might spot.
