I got myself two cans of MiG pigments and a MiG Pigment Fixer, I have been experimenting alittle bit with this but I'm not getting the results I want.
I just came from youtube, where I looked for videos on how to do pigments, but I could not find anyone that answered all my questions.

So what is the deal with MIG Pigment Fixer, Is it a temperary selution to hold your pigment in place or is it suposed to be permanent?

PS: Any tip on how to use the pigments, on say a Rhino would be great!

What effects are you trying to acheive, that would be helpful so we could tell you if you are using it right. As good as the pigment fixer is, it is not the be all and end all of finishing products for pigments.

It is a temporary fixative, like spirits but a bit better. You could consider it 'permanent' for display pieces, but for gaming mini's you are still going to want to varnish seal it.

Actually, piment fixer is permanenet.
It's the 'thinner for washes' that's temporary.
They do a video that you might want to purchase -

Thats a good price, im always looking for more info and techniques on weathering

Redfinger: I'm mostly trying out any effect atm, but what I would like for my Black Templar is a very dusty effect. I'm not sure how to explain it, but I want the armor to be black but... you can see that they have been in a dessert storm? :p

I'm glad I finnaly found out what Pigment Fixer actually does!

Testors Dullcote, it is THE product for horse modeling which uses pigments almost exclusively. Trust me testors dullcote at room temps is all you need.

When i first started using pigments i had real trouble in getting the 'dust' to adhere to my tank hulls. I ended up piling them on after watching the panzer iv70 BF youtube video, but the end result looked awful. Army painter matt varnish sealed the pigments but i couldn't get a light, realistic dusting on the armour plates. Would this fixer solve that problem?

It can but, as I've mentioned elsewhere, I've had problems with the lighter shade of pigments seeming to disappear when I tried to add the fixer.
It also leaves a horrible finish that dooesn't like having paint or washes added to it, so it needs to be varnished if you want to add these after.

Cheers bubber, think i will avoid it, seems to create more problems than it solves. I've only been on this forum a few days and i've seen reference to testors dullcote crop up a few times as if it's a miracle product. Is it really that good?

My friend just showed me this technic in person about a week ago. first you dust your model using a q-tip or brush to push powder in where you really want to see it (it may not look like you did alot but you did, experiment), use as much or little as you like. You then add fixer (turpinoid at hardware store) and it brings out where you pressed hard and activates powders (rust/dust spreads kinda like when you use washes it flows) then evaporates. You should then use dulcote to seal.
