Hey Dakkanauts,

I don't have my 'Dex handy, how many points is a Harbinger of the Storm with a Lightning Field?

Thanks

Same as a plain harbinger of Destruction or naked Wraith.

Alright... Here goes. Somewhat silly list, but should still be competitive.

The Highlander Format, no duplicate choices save for dedicated transports. Troops are limited to 2 of any choice. 1600 points.

I took Anrakyr so I could have two Surfboard Lords.

Criticism would be fantastic. The Plain Lord with Weave is to provide a 2+ save in my immortal unit. I have 10 points left over.

HQ ---

1. Overlord Bronte 90
Warscythe 10, Barge (Tesla) 80
Court
1xCryptek of Destruction with Pulse = 55
1xCryptek of Transmog with Cruicible = 40
1xLord with Scythe, Scarabs, Orb = 90
= 185
Total = 365

2. Anrakyr 165
Barge (Guass) 80
= 245
Court
1xCryptek of Destro = 35
1xCryptek of the Storm with Lightning Field = 35
1xLord with Weave = 50
= 120

Total = 365

HQ = 740

Troops ---

1. 10xWarriors = 130 (Storm & Transmog)
2. 5xWarriors = 65 (Destro + Destro)
Ghost Ark 115
= 180
3. 10xImmortals = 170 (Lord & Lord)

Troops = 480

Fast Attack ---

1. 6xScarabs = 90

Heavy ---

1. Annihilation Barge (Tesla) = 90
2. Monolith = 200

Heavy = 290

6 scarabs will go nowhere fast. All it takes is 3 hits from a 6/5 blast and their gone. They're really only effective in groups of 8+

That doesn't mean they wont do anything of course, just that you'll likely have issues getting so few bases to their intended target before they're reduced to ineffective.

I don't understand some of the choices of the Royal Court. What's the point in taking a single wound model with a expensive 2+ save just to asborb some shots. Just let the Immortals do that and save some points, you could actually invest those points into the Scarabs as 6 is a extremely low number.

The only other notes is the single Monolith and Annihilation Barge. Monoliths aren't that good as they are short ranged, so will take time to get into range or need to deep strike and that's a bad idea. They also have a problem with melta now too. Anni Barges are pretty cheap, I know you don't want some things the same (is this a preference or a rule?) but I would get some more of them.

Ya, the rules of the tourney will be "No double choices, except for troops (only one double) or dedicated transports"

I took the Monolith 'cause it added an AV 14 choice on top of a Ghost Ark, Anni Barge, and two CCB's. I could take... something else?

I like having a 2+ save dude in a unit to take an AP3 hit, when I need him too. He also has 3 S5 AP3 shots at close range, and these guys will be sloggin' across the field to take an objective that's not in my deployment zone. Point taken though. I think you're right, I just don't know what to do with the points.

As for the Scarabs, ya, 8-10 would be ideal. If I drop the 2+ Lord, I can bump the unit up to 9. Either that or I can shakeup the list a bit and try and take a C'Tan, Lychguard Unit, or Praetorian unit.

Furry muff about tournament rule.

How much is the Lord costing with the weave?

If you're taking Scarabs then Spyders are a no brainer. What's not to like about free little beetles which eat metal?

I don't have any Spyders

Lord with Weave is 50 points.

I've had success with 8-10 scarabs on their own, without Spyder support.

I think I need to go back to the drawing board though. I'll post something different after I think about this some more :-)

6 Scarabs are fine without support. You need to make sure to keep them in cover until you're ready to charge them, but otherwise they're fine. I've found that even 3 bases can be effective vs vehicles, so attrition is okay. You would be amazed at how scared some people get of scarabs... and if they're focused on a 90 point unit, then you already have a tactical advantage.

While Anrakyr is great on a barge (he's the only special char worth putting in one), be aware that there is currently a pretty big debate on whether or not he can use Mind in the Machine from inside one. Something you should be aware of.

I agree with mercer about your court choices and the Monolith. The Lords aren't needed, and the Monolith is no longer the unkillable machine it once was. In fact, unless you have a specific tactic in mind, and are building your army around the Monolith, it should be dropped.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Also, at 1600 points, I don't know that I would be going for two Overlords + Courts - you're spending almost half your available points on your HQ selection.

Here's a thought:

HQ - 595
Imotekh - 225
Overlord w/ Scythe - 100
- CCB + Gauss - 80
Court 1 - 95
- DestroTek + Solar - 55
- ChronoTek - 40
Court 2 - 115
- DestroTek - 35
- VoDTek - 60

Troops - 681
15 Warriors - 195
- Imotekh, Chronotek, VoDTek
5 Warriors - 65
- DestroTek, DestroTek
- Ghost Ark - 115
9 Immortals w/ Tesla - 153
9 Immortals w/ Tesla - 153

Fast Attack - 120
8 Scarabs - 120

Heavy Support - 200
2 Spyders (1 w/ claw) - 110
Annihilation Platform + Gauss - 90

Total - 1596

This avoids duplication except in Troops like you need. Imotekh gives you tricks and Night Fight protection early, and the ChronoTek keeps it going. Ghost Ark stays near big Warrior block and replenishes them as they go down. VoD to escape impending assaults and to capture objectives late in the game. I know you said you don't have Spyders... but get them. They help with Scarabs and provide a great counter-assault unit for when the enemy gets into your lines.

Why wouldn't he be able to use Mind in the Machine from a barge? Its open topped, Psy powers can be used form Transport with fire points why not this?

No, it's pretty clear (but dumb) that he can't use non-shooting abilities while embarked.

Lore, that's quite a task... I've been struggling with it for a couple of days and I can't come up with a list that I like!
