My buddy is making the jump into fantasy with me, and he's decided to give Dwarves a shot. I've got some basic knowledge, but he's pretty in the dark and gave me a basic theme to design a list. He wants a ton of shooting, and a chance to field a bunch of those gorgeous Avatars of War "Beserker" models. It seems like a strong theme, a crap-ton of shooting protected by two big unbreakable blocks of death.

Runesmith - 243
- Rune of Balance, x2 Rune of Spellbreaking

Daemon Slayer - 110
Daemon Slayer - 110

Thunderers x16 - 239

Slayers x30 - 348

Cannon - 130
- Rune of Burning, Rune of Forging

Cannon - 105
- Rune of Burning, Rune of Reloading

Organ Gun - 120
Organ Gun - 120

No BSB was something that kind of made sense to us. The shooty units really aren't going to have to make a lot of leadership tests to stay in crucial combats, and the Slayers obviously don't need them. I could be wrong, but it seems like if any army could cut the BSB corner it would be this one.

Let me know what you guys think.

ive played dwarves for years and this isn't too bad a list but i would change a few things. Drop the thunderers to quarrellers. extra range keeps them further from the front line and saves points, 96 infact. Drop the runes from the cannons, they don't need it. Swap the organ guns for flame cannons using points saved from thunderers.

Let me explain why i'd personally make these changes.

Thunderers to quarrellers - Losing the +1 to hit and AP isn't such a big deal. Especially in a dwarf list where most things are quite expensive so the points can really help out. tbh, when you look at the warmachines available you really only use core units to fill out the list esp. if you want to use slayers..

No runes on cannons - the runes you have apart from burning, are for very specific events which tbh don't happen a lot. A magical cannon won't be much more use than a non magical one.

Organ gun to flame cannon - S5, D3 wounds, flaming, panic checks, effective 30" reach with a template that covers more models than the organ gun can hit thanks to pre-measure and no partials. Plus they rinse trolls and other multi-wound regens.

By my calculation this also saves you enough points to get in 2-3 bolt throwers to further enhance your threat.

this is by no means the right way to change the list but it is what i have found from personal experience to be most effective in the setup you want.

Judging by points, I'm guessing you've bought a standard and musician for each of the slayer blocks, and a shield for the runelord. A cheap and useful upgrade is the rune of stone, which bumps that runelord's save just a little higher for only a handful of points.

Jamin p may be the only person I've ever seen recommend the Flame Cannon, and while I'd love to agree, I think its because he isn't aware that the FAQ nerfed the flame cannon and removed its extra range.

Change to “Flame Cannons shoot using the Fire Thrower
rules. In addition they have the Multiple Wounds (D3) special
rule.”

These days I rate quarrelers over thunderers too, though with that many shooters, there may be a place for a unit to help deter cav. Still, a better all round (though perhaps more boring) choice would probably be to go straight crossbows.

The slayer characters should be fun, but I think I'd prefer 4 dragonslayers rather than 2 daemonslayers (or perhaps 2 dragonslayers and a daemonslayer if you prefer). It also might be a good idea to give them some cheap runic weapons, particularly flaming ones. Ethereal stuff is difficult to deal with once its in your blocks, and it could be really frustrating to get a whole slayer block locked down because a spirit host breezed in to your unit. And a flaming weapon at higher initiative greatly increases your chance of doing real damage to a regenerating unit with the rest of your slayers.

I'd also strongly recommend keeping forging on at least one cannon and leaving one of them burning. The ability to re-roll misfires really increases the reliability of cannons. And while you'll really want to drop hell-pits and hydras at range if you get the chance, its also nice to have an option to deal with a lone character that's sporting the 2+ ward vs. fire by having a non-flaming cannon.

I've made a couple (though not many) recommendations that will cost points- you can get those by converting thunderers to quarrelers, or simply dropping one or two shooters from the bricks you have.

“It was in lands of the Chi-An where she finally ran him to ground. There she kissed him deeply as he lay dying, and so stole from him his last, agonized breath.

On a delicate chain at her throat, she keeps it with her to this day.”

Say WHAT! Ok, Forging is a must for cannons, and possibly rune of reloading, other wise, cannons are just a waste of 120 points, cause they'll blow up by turn 3. And flam cannons are just bad...

The Organ gun is a very good warmachine also
